I believe this was posted in another thread. I considered this position by Blandino. And the comments made by others who suggest this will not change. Partly because Parson's doesn't sell the hold well. Or he is such a brutal man he plays through the hold, which confuses the ref. Or the incompetency of the refs. Or the refs just aren't calling them. There were many options postulated on this subject.

I'm not so certain I agree with the outcome others proffered.

I believe now that Blandino has spoken, there could be a change in how these infractions are ruled.

However, back in the day Joe Gibbs of the Commanders sent a short video every week to the league officials pointing out issues where the refs didn't make the right call, or any call at all. If I recall correctly, that did have somewhat of an result in favor of the Commanders. Perhaps Jerry should take a cue from this and have the video team create a Parson's is held video every week and inundate the league with visual evidence Parson's and the Dallas Cowboys are being unfairly treated.

I'd like to add I used the original name of the team from Washington D.C., the one Dallas thumped yesterday. You will note the board changed it to their current name.

So I will go back to calling them the Commodores since using the name they played under for decades is verboten. Silliness abounds in these latest days.
It goes beyond silliness what is going on these days. A lot of it is down right dumb!

They could call a hold on nearly every play because technically OL hold on almost every play but most don't rise to the level of being called a foul. Then you have the normal amount of fouls the refs typically miss. But they do seem to miss even the blatant holds on Parsons. At some point the NFL refs should be liable for missing something so obvious.

So Blandino said the video in the OP is a hold on Parsons?

Do you disagree with him?

I'm not asking if you agree/disagree with the conspiracy theories. Is the video a hold?
Yes, it is a hold because the TE grabs his outside shoulder as Parsons tries to swat him out of the way to clear himself. Why it could not have been called a hold is the pulling OL in Parsons' way if he did get past the TE cleanly and the fact that the pass went to the right instead of the left. There is an exception in the rule that if the official determines that the hold took place "away from the point of attack and not within close-line play" he has the flexibility to not call it a hold. I talk about the pass to the right because Parsons was coming from the left. This is the same justification the refs used in that game against Chicago when the TE basically just pulled Parsons to the ground on the left, but the play went to the right.

Cowboy games

Ref: {blows whistle and gives windmill gesture after 40 yard completion to Dallas 16 yd line} "First down"
Detroit Guard: {huffing and puffing with bruises and contusions on his arms. "That dude is a bear to bring down."
Ref: {to guard} did he hurt your arm with his neck?
Detroit Guard: Just look. It's bruised and contused.
Ref: {Throws flag} Personal Foul on number 11. Fifteen yard penalty. 1st and goal to go.

I agree with Blandino to an extent. The more you fight through holds, the less officials will notice them. However, you can't just give up fighting so the holding call will be made because there's a good chance the officials still won't call it. It needs to just be continually harped on until the officials get it. Not by Micah but by the media, by the team, etc.
I remember ware always called off sides except he was’nt. It just looked like he was because he got off so fast. Micah defeats holds so fast they don’t call it. The team needs to keep pointing it out and talking to officials pre game

Thanks, that is how I saw it. The unfortunate part with Parsons is determining when he is out of a play. I think some refs get this wrong.

MM said in his interview on 105.3 the fan last week that teams are allowed to send to the league office 10 min of video clips after every game regarding officials calls/missed calls and that he does it every week...doesn't seem to be helping Micah.

Yet, you see holding calls all the time that are away from the play and would have zero impact on the play if the hold did not occur. If this is the case, it is definitely not applied consistently.

I’ve heard college DL coaches say if you’re being held then you’re losing. They’re taught to use their hands and fight/chop/swim/rip at the point of attack. Blatant holds have to be called, however…

This is why I constantly bring up the wording of the rule. "Material restriction" implies that some restriction is fine. So if you can effectively fight off what might have been a material restriction to a mere mortal, it only looks like acceptable restriction at those speeds. So it combines with the other wording about the defender's path to the ball and if it looks like his path is not being impacted then he doesn't look like one who's being held. But that will never fly when there are "46 Quarters, OMG!" headlines out there.
This is the problem. “Material restriction” aka a completely subjective measure that refs can just decide for themselves when to call.

Then we as fans are supposed to just suck it up and say “ok the ref decided not to throw a flag that time Micah had an arm around his neck. No biggie”.

Yeah right.

It's only a dying hill when there are numbers to back up the whine.

Has Parsons had a stretch like this before?
Have other current top pass rushers had stretches like this before?
Parsons has drawn 3 holding calls this year from what I remember. What were his holding stats his previous seasons to know if this is out of the ordinary or typical for him?
How about you people start with these gimme questions so the 'spiracy argument can have some semblance of context, rather than the lazy "OMG it's rigged!" haze?
I would gladly do the research if someone can point me to a site that tracks penalties on a game by game basis, including player committing the penalty and player impacted by the penalty..and I do not mean going through ESPNs play by play to find the penalties.

Idk how you can make that justification on a pass play. Micah is rushing the passer. There’s not a point of attack. I don’t care which direction the QB is throwing the ball, you shouldn’t be able to hold somebody who is rushing a QB that has the ball.

The question is a red herring. Who cares what the numbers are. All you gotta do is go back and watch video of Micah getting absolutely mugged repeatedly over this stretch of games to deduce that the refs are missing clear holds against him.

I don’t care about conspiracies or any of that nonsense.

The refs for whatever reason are not doing their damn jobs and calling clear and obvious holds against Micah.

Even if you’re not going to call a hold every time. The least they could do is call one occasionally just to set an example. Because if I was an opposing OC I would tell my lineman “go ahead and hold Parsons, the refs are blind idiots and not calling it anyway”

Agreed. But we have those here who think one play is a hold while another says it's not, so it's not always easy to determine even if you are paid to do it. And we have the advantage of replay while the officials are trying to make calls on the spot while keeping an eye on multiple things.

They need to do better, much better, but there are reasons they don't sometimes notice what we noticed. I just think when it is brought to light as much as it has been with Parsons that eventually that should take hold and the officials should be more aware of it. So far, that has not been the case.

Right. If an offensive line grabs him by the collar and he's able to break free from it, that doesn't mean he wasn't impeded even if he gets a pressure since he could have possibly had a sack. I think it's a no harm, no foul type thinking that needs to change. They are inhibiting his ability to get a sack, which is harm. I would be all over the officials as often as allowed as a team to try to get them to acknowledge that those are holds and should be called.

Oh I know, but would love to shut this noise down with facts...And I am certain the data would back it up...we watch enough football to know this not a typical thing.

With that said, I said earlier that I think with the amount of attention this getting I expect we will see a few holding calls against Micah called in the playoffs.

But material restriction for a player with his speed is different than material restriction for players who cannot burst to the quarterback like he does. I think that's part of where the problem lies and where an adjustment needs to be made. His path is impacted and he is impeded from getting where he could get if not held. (I don't think it's just him by the way, just that he's the greatest example of it because of how long he's gone without drawing a call.)

Would like to see the tape to compare but expecting identical judgements of "material restriction" is going to be hard herd to corral when you involve multiple human beings trying to keep up with super fast athletes and you're outnumbered 7 to 11 match-ups to boot. I'm just happy when they don't completely flub calls.
