Defense needs help

I hate to pee in everyone's Cheerios the day after a great offensive win, but this has to be said. One aspect of yesterday's game should not be overlooked-had the Steelers not gone for two points an astounding FOUR times, they would have scored 34 points on our defense, including driving 75 yards in just over a minute to take the lead with 42 seconds remaining in the game. It's unfeasible to believe that our offense can bail us out like it did yesterday on a consistent basis. Except for DeMarcus Lawrence, our pass rush is nil. I was really surprised when the Browns were able to trade for Patriots Pro Bowl OLB/DE Jamie Collins for a possible 3rd round pick. I don't know if we made an offer or not, but we sure could have used him in our stretch run. He has their playbook down already, & was a one-man wrecking crew vs the Ravens Thursday night. That being said, we need to find a way to get more pressure on the QB, or we won't get very deep into the playoffs. Big Ben laid 408 yards passing on us. If we can't find someone else to help out this year, we need to draft at least two pass rushers in the first four rounds in 2017 if we're ever going to have a dominating defense. The only way to stop the Brady's of the NFL is to put them in the dirt early & often. We do not have that capability right now, & it will keep us from winning the SB until we do. Offensive games are fun to watch, but they don't win Super Bowls.

well we are 8-1 with the defense we have.
losing mo and church hurt a lot, and that and the pass rush are a issue.

bottom line is our offense can keep up with any team, so that is a plus.
we may just have to score last for some games.

agreed, as much fun as all this winning feels right now it doesn't mean much when the playoffs start. you don't get a trophy for going 15-1 in the regular season..

really wish we could've addressed it before the trade deadline, but the Jets are delusional and we stupidly passed on Freeney in FA.

it is what it is now, and my heart says our offense will be able to continue the dominance throughout the playoffs into the SB, but my head says we are 1 and done with no pass rush

Every team has flaws.

Scandrick being hurt also hurt of that last drive. And to be honest, Steeles have the most talented offense in the league. Not too worried about our efense.

If we can get Mo and Church back right before the playoffs this team will be fine. They fly to the ball and don't allow big plays. They tackle very well. We won't face a better QB then Big Ben until we get to Brady......so relax.
Eli always seems to have our number, that is not to say Eli is a good QB because he is average imo
Stafford is balling this year

but yeah that's about it

Yep and without a better edge rush it will cost deeper into the playoffs against teams like Seattle and ultimately New England.

But that's fine . We don't expect our Rookie QB to win a championship anyway. None other ever have.

that is true but i just keep going back to the most recent SB winners and looking for the common denominator for their wins?

elite pass rushing coupled with ok offense

I don't recall the Patriots ever having elite pass rushes. Maybe they did but just don't recall. Also, their offense in 2014 was far from just ok.

Was the Packers defense of 2010 really all that great? They also had a better than ok offense.

Correct . Our offense will carry us probably to the championship game but our defense will end it there . And that's ok. We didn't expect anymore.

Big Ben was AWESOME yesterday. He was exposing out Nickel with short vertical routes, similar to the trick play Cleveland threw against us early. We will have to adjust to that. But missing two CBs and a Strong Safety - well, that hurts. He are thin in the back now.

We need a pass rush or it will likely do us in during the playoffs. We were getting toasted in the secondary yesterday and Ben had a lot of time to throw. It's going to catch up with us. We have a very good offense and although the defense has played better this season I'm still not comfortable with it.

Might as well stop watching
Why, I haven't missed a game in 53 years. That includes many seasons we didn't have high expectations. This season has been fun. And making it to a championship game will surpass anything we've done for 20 years. But I don't have to believe or expect we'll get past it,

Even if they scored 34, we scored 35. By my count we still win. We won't see another offense like that all year. Defense had a bad game, but we put them in a bad position twice. First was the Dak fumble on the first drive, and the second was the long punt return that put them past the 50. Byron also missed a fumble recovery that would of set us up on the 30. Worst game they played all year and we still won. I'll take it

Only help the defense will get will be the return of Claiborne and Church. Outside of that these are the guys we ride with. They have contributed to the 8-1 and have played very well at times. Vs Pitt who also has some very good talent in Big Ben, Brown and Bell they gave the defense all they could handle. Sometimes you tip your hat to the guys on the other side.

This is not to say I would not love to have a top pass rusher and a stub MLB of course I would but they are not here so Cowboys just need to keep playing and fighting like they currently are on defense.
