Defense won't be the same defense

Not only will this defense be a Tampa 2 and a 4-3, but it will wear the face of not just Kiffin, but Sean Lee as well.

This guy is quickly becoming the leader of this defense, even above DeMarcus Ware. If we can field a healthy defensive line... the sky is the limit with this defense.

Finally we're going to have a defense in the same breath as Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Chicago. I appreciate players like Will Allen who bring a sense of maturity to that secondary. I think we have a lot of nonsense guys back there. Church, Wilcox, Carr, and even Claiborne are developing into these tough gladiators out there. Part of me really hopes that Sterling Moore can make this team. Also wouldn't mind if we are able to retain Underwood somehow. I wouldn't be too upset if we cut BW Webb and tried to add him to the PS. The dude is like a ball in tall grass.

I think our linebacker corps is going to be a complete nightmare for people. I called Ernie Sims becoming the starter early, and he hasn't failed me. He came into this with a great attitude. I still think he will start over Durant. But what I'm happy to see is the development of Holloman. Magee is the only one that has really disappointed me. Not sure if Taylor Reed will make this team over Albright or McSurdy (two players I didn't have making this team this year), but we'll see.

I think we have an interesting infusion of young talent. Only thing we need to do in the future is build on our offensive and defensive lines.

I generally agree with you on most points, but guys like Lee, Carter, and Ratliff need to prove they can stay on the field. If it weren't for injuries, our defense would been decent last year.

I agree with you to a point, but I don't think that 3-4 or Rob Ryan's scheme was conducive to young players stepping in.

I think this team has an attitude that it didn't have under Rob, or at least the capacity to follow through with that attitude.

I think the growth of the corners backs will pay dividends over the next few years.

I think the NFL is going to be introduced to 3 intense linebackers this year, that they are completely sleeping on right now.

I think that defensive line if it can stay healthy is going to be a top 3 defensive line in the nfl. The ability to send 4 and get to the quarterback? I think that will make this defense exactly what we want it to be. Very similar to how we got abused by Minnesota in 2009.

When you are down to Brady Popinga, Alex Albright, Charlie Peprah, Rob Calloway, Brain Schaffering, Danny McCray and Eric Frampton, you are going to look silly. We need more than just the line to stay healthy. If Lee goes down, we are going to be in serious trouble. If Carter goes down, we are in serious trouble. If Ware goes down, we are in serious trouble.

We have a lot of talent, but 2-3 injuries will be a disaster, I don't care what the scheme is.

Ernie Sims has a groin injury. I agree he has carried his play from last season into trainig camp and deserves to start, but hard to compete if youre hurt. I'm finally starting to believe we made the right choice in Will Allen. His veteran presence will prove invaluable for guys like Wilcox just getting his feet wet at the safety position...

If we can't get pressure with the front 4 - which if healthy I think we should - we are going to be in a lot of trouble, imo.

I know BD Webb hasn't been that impressive thus far. But he is young, has all the tools, and won't make it to the practice squad.

Even before the injuries it wasn't a top-10 defense.

Bend but don't Break.

Wasn't there a campaign to get rid of Zimmer and his Bend but don't Break defense? GROZ was the rallying cry.

What killed me about that defense while he was here was the Corners playing 6 yards off the receiver when the other team needed 3 yards for a first down.

If that continues with Kiffin then there will be a GROK crew.

if the "D" can stay healthy they should be good. not sure they will be pitt, or chi good but good. the one thing i've seen in the two games so far that is a concern is deep middle routes being open all the time which is on the safeties. that is a concern to me

I wouldn't be too upset if we cut BW Webb and tried to add him to the PS. The dude is like a ball in tall grass.
That is the kind of player we need to keep and develop. If we cut him 3 years from now we will all be reuing that move because he becomes a solid starter for someone.

As we've learned in the past. You can get CBs to the practice squad. We've lost a 5th and before that a 6th round CBs who don't have near the talent that BW does.

Yes it was. We had the number one pass defense for the first many weeks of the season.

Stats are misleading. You can't just take one aspect from defensive statistics like this. It could be the pass defense was good because opposing teams didn't pass much against the Cowboys because they were running it down our throats.
