When does that rule come in to play? That hit on RW after the missed catch looks exactly like what the rule was intended to prevent.

Dont go there.

You will just get that the ball was too high.

There should have been two flags thrown on denver on this play, illegal contact and hitting a defensless wr.

but nope. Nothing.

Romo sucks the ball was high. Move along.

Come now. You know such rules only apply to the Cowboys when they are the offenders.

The rule was intended to end the helmet to helmet hits. I don't think you can even go shoulder pad high.

As much as it sucks (for Roy) that hit was textbook legal, from what I understand.

I have seen worse. I don't think this one should have been called. What should have been called on that same exact play was the push by Champ on Roy about 15 yards down field. Illegal contact, 5 yards, automatic 1st down.

interesting, did you see the personal foul called on KC for their hit on Steve smith, who actually had the ball in his hands?

go watch that and then compare it to this.

At least that GIF shows that Roy tries...he seems to catch a lot of heat for the trade, etc...but he didn't make the trade...and he'd be a fool not to have signed that contract.

I can't imagine how much that hurt.

I think this is right.

You were already protected against helmet to helmet hits. The expansion to the rule was just to prevent a defender hitting a defenseless receiver in the HEAD at all (like with their elbow or forearm) - but shots to the ribs are still fair game.

That was an incredibly bad call. It was almost the worst call of the weekend in the NFL, but that title goes to the call against the Ravens on Tom Brady.

He gets paid well to catch it, and he's trained his whole life to play this game. I'm sure it hurt, but it can't be the first time he's had a lick like that.

They also will consider calling the penalty if the defender launches himself in the air prior to making contact with the receiver. I don't really see that applying in this situation, either.

I had the same thought, especially after earlier in the day when a Chiefs DB lit up a Giants WR on a good, hard hit over the middle and got called for it. He didn't lead with his head, he didn't throw a forearm, and it wasn't too long after the ball was gone. He just lowered his shoulder and blew the guy up, and got a personal foul for hitting a defenseless WR.

I think they're turning the game into flag fooball and that shouldn't have been called... But if that was, why not the Roy play.

Edit, ****** theebs I type too slow. :)

I don't know the exact wording of the rule, but I would imagine some officiating crews call it more than others depending on their interpretation of the rule.I would imagine that can be said for all league rules. The league revues all the games, has there been any fines levied against any Denver players. If a fine were to be issued it would seem to say that the officials missed the call.

I didn't see it, to be honest. I'll take a wild shot in the dark though and take a guess that the hit was high on Smith's body. High enough to mistake it, from a particular angle, as being towards the head or shoulders. But in all honesty, I didn't see the play so, to make a claim declaring any amount of certainty would be BS on my part.

I don't want to use a bad call as the precedent for another bad call to be made. The one against the Chiefs was the wrong call and the refs need to be reprimanded for it. Just because they got it wrong does not mean other refs should make the wrong call, too. Even if it may benefits my favorite team.

Oh, and BTW... Not saying the refs were out to get us or they cost us the game at all. But I said even before the game that when Walt Anderson is the lead ref, just go ahead and expect some, ahem, questionable calls from the start.

If I never saw that guy again it would be too soon.

At least they actually called some penalties on Denver. Usually it's one or two on them and 10 on us.

Oh, I agree. Way too many penalties on both teams, IMO.
