Defensive Backs Combine

no 7.01 isn't bad for CB.

Claiborne didn't destroy the combine but he also didn't do anything bad. He had good drills and looked great. His times were right around average.

ROFL, and yet if Kirkpatrick runs the same time you would use it as Exhibit A in trying to build your case that he has stiff hips.

Yeah I think Gilmore jumped into the bottom first after today.

with a 3.94 20 yard shuttle and 11.15 60 yard shuttle

With those numbers, he's going to go higher then the bottom of the first IMO.

No I would use it the same way I used his forty as a average time. Look at my post where I said Kirkpatrick 40 was 4.51 which is average for a CB.

Maybe Kirkpatrick should do the drill and run a 7.01 and see what I say rather knowing he can't and just not do it.

Pretty much.

7.01 is not that good either. What I'm saying it I think some of you are making more of the combines than there is. It is a drill you want to know about a player watch him play. These workouts do not simulate the real play on the field. Is it a good tool but Kirkpatrick is still going to be rated very high on draft boards around the NFL because he is a very good player.

Jenkins may help himself but his off the field issues will still likely hold him back from going as early as he should have.

Kirkpatrick is but the 3 cone and shuttle drills and the the positon drills show there footwork and fluid hips. You see if they are real stiff or have fluid hips which if you run a man cover scheme like Dallas does, you want to know.

This was my thing on Kirkpatrick. I have seen him play every game the last 3 years. My problem is he is to stiff to play man cover. To stiff to press and turn and run stride for stride and mirror a NFL WR.

7.01 in the 3 cone isn't great but its not bad. Its just liek running a 4.51 in the 40. You would like to see alittle better but its not a bad number to have.

nope what did I say about Kirkpatricks 40 time. I didn't kill that or say he was slow. I said he was average for a CB his size. Same thing I would have said if he did a 7.01 in the 3 cone.

It will not tell you how they will play there are no 3 cones on a football field and there are many example of guys who did not do well at the combines and ended up being damn good players. Bret Grimes did not do well I would take him over many CB in the NFL. It is still about being able to play the game so all this 3 cone stuff while is a good tool does not tell you want kind of player a guy will be

so the NFL makes these guys do this drill for what reason. I'm sorry that you don't understand the drill, but it shows agility. Thats what the drill is meant to do. You have to be very agile to do good in the drill. Have to be able to flip your hips and maintain balance and speed.

It helps answer queations. Thats all the combine does. It helps a team say yep we like what we see and I will keep him there on the board where I have him.

This helps teams see if players have tight hips and if they can turn and run and move on a dime. Sorry but if you don't understand how it translates but I guess all 32 NFL teams and scouts do since they do the drill.

Looool, thanks for showing your cards.

So apparently you've got some insider info on Kirkpatrick and that he's apparently admitted won't be doing the 3-cone because "he can't."

There is a reason why Kirkpatrick didn't do these drills because he knew it wouldn't do anything but hurt his stock. Since I didn't see him do the drills I wanted him to do then I'm going to continue to say he isn't a man cover CB and I don't want him. I still think his hips are to stiff and untili he proves me otherwise. Liek I said I have seen every Alabmam game he has playe din the last 3 years and never impressed me as a man cover CB.

Now some zone cover 2/ tampa 2 team will love to have him.

Then why didn't do the drill. There is a reason, which has to be becuase he knew it would hurt his stock. Why not do a drill that would help you or wouldn't hurt you.
Why run the 40 which he probably be working on the past month but not do the 3 cone or 20 yard shuttle? Players don't skip on drills at the combine unless they know it will hurt their stock.

So it's been confirmed that he DNP, or just that the 3-cone time hasn't come in for him yet?

why did RGIII and Luck not throw? You think Luck is now looking to be picked outside the top 10? :laugh2:

In your view Kirkpatrick is not that good that is fine people will have different views. I saw him at Bama as well and liked what I saw from him then that is my view.

Thus far nothing posted I would have to assume he did not run the 3 cone.

Well NFL network says the combine is over and his number isn't up for all thoae drills but everyone else is

To each their own, I like kirkpatrick I just don't think he fits Dallas scheme and is a great zone cb or a safety like malcom Jenkins

I don't think it's the end-all-be-all for a CB, but 7.01 is below average for a CB. I think Claiborne is terrific CB BTW.

Of all the defensive backs invited to the combine only 14 DBs had a 3-cone +7.0 seconds (9 of them were FS/SS prospects).
