Quinn says in the presser that we will run 3-4 front but 4-3 or 4-2 on obvious passing downs.

who will be your starters in 3-4 and 4-3?

3-4 DL Hill, Gallimore, Odigizuwa. LBs Tank, Smith, LVE, Gregory, DB Joseph, Diggs, Kazee, Wilson

4-3 DL Tank, Hill, Gallimore, Gregory. LB LVE, Smith, Parson, DB.... same as above.

How do we maximize our LB corp assuming everyone is healthy?

How do we maximize the talent of LVE, Jaylon and Parson if all are healthy? Where would u play each?

are we ditching the 4-2-5 base?

Great question.
3-4
DL Tank Gallimore Urban
LBs Smith LVE Neal Parsons

4-2 (Nickel)
DL Betham Tank Hill Gregory
LBs Neal Parsons

Tank isnt a LB. Gregory maybe. Betham maybe. And with Tanks contract, he better be playing a lot of snaps.

Cant think of a team that has shifted from a 3-4 to a 4-3 like they are planning. Lot of moving parts. Explains the 3rd round and the Urban signing though.

This will be a very interesting camp. Seeing how that front 7 shakes out and who plays where and when.

It’s a 3-4 look with 4-3 personnel. Basham/Gregory are the REs in a 2 point stance.

similar to what was done last year with Aldon.

The 3-4 look will be the run stopping look. Get your best run stoppers in there. The LBs still have to cover though. I dont want to see Tank, Gregory or Basham anywhere near covering anyone.

Simply having a DE standup doesnt make it a 3-4. Unless you liked Nolans defense?

A 3-4 is a two gap system, depending if you run it ala Parcells or Phillips. Its a run stopping defense.

I can see the logic with who we have. Tank is stout against the run. Urban is a perfect fit for end in a 3-4. That leaves the middle. Gallimore needs snaps. But is he suited for nose?

Now you let Smith and Parsons just attack upfield. They can also cover if need be. Same goes for Neal and LVE.

In nickel/dime, get your best pass rushers in there. Like the Giants did their super bowl year. Slide Tank inside along with maybe Hill. Put Gregory on one side and Basham on the other. Or use Parsons like Mack and just get rid of Basham.

He ended that presser talking about Quinten Bohanna lining up square in the middle.

Quinn didn’t really say that it will be a 34... he said the base defense (run stopping primarily) will have a 34 look. He said that the nickel/dime defense (about 70% of the time) will be four down linemen.

It’s a subtle difference but he didn’t say they’d be a 34 defense.

He specifically mentioned Watkins and Urban in relation to the run stopping guys (which we figured), so it seems that they would be primarily part of the 34 look/early down/short yardage unit.

I don’t know if Tank can hold up as 3-4 end. He probably can play Rush LB.
Gregory is perfect for 3-4 OLB.

Consider 3-3-5. Tank, Hill, Gregory. Parson, Smith, Cox (Neal...other play SS). Smith or Parson will be blitz. DBs Cox/Neal, Diggs, Joseph, Lewis, Wilson.

Seems wasteful to start 7 non cornerbacks on defense.

We need to start taking that position seriously. We practically ignored it with only 3 picks. That can't happen next year.

You play to your strength.
Cox can potentially count as SS.

I dont want Tank as a LB. And even if he does, then why do we have Smith? Unless he moves inside and replaces LVE. But LVE is far better in coverage. And you cant cut Smith because of his contract. I suppose you could cut LVE this year.

Gregory is no Ware. Think more like when we had Ellis playing LB. And no way am I doing that when I have Parsons and Smith.

Like I said, it will be a very interesting camp and there could be some interesting trades/cuts.

How would you utilize our LB corp? LVE at Will, Smith MLB and Parson SLB?

Cowboys just finished drafting a true NT in 6'4", 335 lb. Quinton Bohanna, yet you don't have nothing but 3 and 5 techs lined up for your base 3-4 alignment?
