Defensive Line up

How would you utilize our LB corp? LVE at Will, Smith MLB and Parson SLB?

Parsons at Will
LVE at mike
Smith at sam

Now they could go crazy and trade or cut LVE. Move Parsons to Mike and Neal at will. Next year Cox takes over for Neal.

But isn’t SAM responsible to cover TE? I rather LVE do that IMO

Depends on coverage calls. Run downs sam needs to take on the blocks of the TE.

Smith would be off the field for passing downs, so no worries. Id probably take LVE off too and replace him with Cox, once he was ready.

i don' care as long as #90 is at DE with his hand in the dirt...#11 is at LB...with Diggs and Joseph manning the corners.

The 3-4 look will be the run stopping look. Get your best run stoppers in there. The LBs still have to cover though. I dont want to see Tank, Gregory or Basham anywhere near covering anyone.

Simply having a DE standup doesnt make it a 3-4. Unless you liked Nolans defense?

A 3-4 is a two gap system, depending if you run it ala Parcells or Phillips. Its a run stopping defense.

I can see the logic with who we have. Tank is stout against the run. Urban is a perfect fit for end in a 3-4. That leaves the middle. Gallimore needs snaps. But is he suited for nose?

Now you let Smith and Parsons just attack upfield. They can also cover if need be. Same goes for Neal and LVE.

In nickel/dime, get your best pass rushers in there. Like the Giants did their super bowl year. Slide Tank inside along with maybe Hill. Put Gregory on one side and Basham on the other. Or use Parsons like Mack and just get rid of Basham.

Good post. I think what this draft does is allow variety in the Defense and gives Quinn options and different looks.....now have a lightening fast LB, so now pass can come from different angles and positions - changes up the opposing offense in that we're not going to be predictable. Could even play pass rush with Bohanna creating passing lines for Odighizuwa/Gallimore (Parsons etc).

Maybe they'll find a way to let Bradlee Anae actually play on a couple of downs.

The beauty of the draft is that it's no longer a matter of give Anae a couple of downs as he's next up and he's all we've got, it'll be a matter of he'll get the downs as he's beaten out the improved competition. The infusion of pass rushing options from LB and DT(and even 1-tech DT, that just doesnt prop himself up against the Centre) means that our DE's may be given less attention....in 2020 we were too telegraphed as to where the blitz/rush was coming from and subsequently it was too easy to defend against.

Quinn says in the presser that we will run 3-4 front but 4-3 or 4-2 on obvious passing downs.

who will be your starters in 3-4 and 4-3?

3-4 DL Hill, Gallimore, Odigizuwa. LBs Tank, Smith, LVE, Gregory, DB Joseph, Diggs, Kazee, Wilson

4-3 DL Tank, Hill, Gallimore, Gregory. LB LVE, Smith, Parson, DB.... same as above.

How do we maximize our LB corp assuming everyone is healthy?

So funny how everyone is trying to figure out what these idiots in the FO are doing. Nothing makes any sense.

Only thing you can be relatively certain of is that NONE of these rookie DL are going to do much this year. They didnt draft ANY starters or anything close to that in this draft.

Starting DL is most likely going to be Lawrence, Gallimore, Urban, Gregory. This draft didnt change anything there.

All they really did in this draft is throw numbers at the problem and hope they get lucky.

This was a quantity over quality draft. All we can do is pray that Parsons and Joseph at least turn out to be great picks and are day 1 starters that make an impact.

Correct, but that's the nature of the draft. Round 1 plug and play, Round 2 rotational turned into regular by end of season and Round 3 onwards are developmental.

These 3rd round guys are all long shots or practice squad fodder. Guys like McNeil and Milton were sitting there for the taking. Mcneil could have started day 1 at 1T. Milton was the much better version of the UCLA DT.

I really liked that pick a lot. Dude won’t do a lot of different things... but what he does he will do well and it’s I,portent to the overall success of the defense.
Hopefully the next snacks Harrison... he was drafted in the 6th round to I believe... Nevermind he went u drafted

I liked it a lot too. Woods was our only guy hovering at 300 on the whole line. This dude will be valuable on goal line etc

???
Both Gallimore and Hill are 310 plus. Urban is around 300.

I think Woods is gone.

You can't bemoan the fact that players went ahead of our pick, unless you work on hindsight you just have to take it. We dont know whether we were higher on McNeil/Williams or Odighizuwa and in any case all three have different qualities.

Could you have seen us trade up 3 places with Eagles, the only reason we did in the first was that Smith was going to be in the East whatever happened.
