Remember this name from the 2016 draft? He was one of the handful of guys linked to us at 4th overall. We obviously picked Zeke, and Buckner was snatched up by SF at 7. I was really intrigued by his ceiling, and at one point was the guy I wanted at #4.

He's putting it all together this year and has been arguably the most disruptive interior defender in the NFL. He's figured out how to use his length and leverage on shorter, compact guards... similar to how our own David Irving uses those tools but Buckner is about 30 pounds heavier and has a different set of power elements to his game.

This isn't intended to be a hindsight rueage thread saying we should have picked him over zeke. It's simply something to watch for in Sunday's game because I know a lot of us studied Buckner closely leading up to that draft.

If SF has any chance of beating us, it's gonna start with 99. He's a potential game wrecker on that defensive line.

INB4 49ers are 0-6, therefore he sucks and Zeke was the right pick.

Wasn't Buckner skill set better translated for the 3-4 versus the 4-3? I remember the posters that wanted him but I didn't really "study" him as much as others.

The story I remember was he wasn't a fit for the 4-3 and he wasn't the pass rusher we needed. Seems like at this point Irving and Lawrence are better pass rushers.

Those ratings are for pass rushing/run stopping?
3 out of the 4 belong to 3-4 teams.

edit 50/50 on 3-4/4-3 teams.

The 49ers have been in most of their games that aren’t as bad as 0-6.

With that said, they aren’t good either, and it’s a travesty if we lose to them.

One of the most misleading things I hear fans say is the "they are in all their games"....that means nothing. Thst means you can't close games which is what bad teams do. How many games were we in when we went 4-12? We rarely if ever got destroyed.....

I wish we would have never switched

I had a brain fart, 2 out of the 4 teams are in a 3-4.
Forgot San Fran went to the 4-3, which I guess makes more sense why the OP created this thread.

The pick would've been Ramsey, as it should have been.

Drafting a RB at 4th overall was just plain dumb. Jordan Howard would look near the same as Elliot did last year.

He's an interior lineman, what's your point?

Well you quoted my post....I said he wasn't considered a pass rusher in the 4-3 and all you have done is bring up stats he's done in the interior. I appreciate the stats....I wonder what it says that he can't get any sacks but can get pressure and hurries.

What's it going to be then, eh?

He is pretty scary now he has learned to play with better pad level than he did in college.

But hopefully since Armstead is out with a broken hand and they are also going to likely be without Aaron Lynch too, it will leave the 49ers very very thin on the DL.
