I really think Jerry has been in some kind of trance since Deion left trying to find that one magical player who can shut down one side of the field instead of trying to build this team from the front out. I would rather have 4 no name average players in the secondary and 4 studs up front everyday of the week. The top defenses in this league know how to pressure the QB, period! SD, Chicago and Baltimore can bring the heat with or without blitzing and force teams out of their rhythm. Trent Green was so rattled in the last SD match up he was chucking the ball off target even when he had all day in the pocket because he was rattled from all the other times they were in his face.

My biggest frustration is that Oline and Dline have been below adequate for 10 years now and it doesnt seem like either is going to get much better any time soon as Canty, Spears, Coleman etc. are all role players and nothing more. Adams is getting up there, Rivera is done and Kosier is serviceable at best so the Oline will continue to struggle to pickup critical yards when it matters most and good teams will continue to pressure Romo until they draft some players worth a damn. Hopefully that will happen sometime in this decade.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm still disappointed we totally ignored the OL in this year's draft. There were some decent players out there, and we passed them up.

Look at SD's drafting over the last two years. They held almost identical spots as us, but look what they came up with compared to who we took.

BP likes McQ at left tackle. As we all know, that is the most important position on the OL. If BP is right, McQ will take over from Adams in the next couple of seasons.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't like a 7th round pick protecting my qb's blind side.

We did all right with undrafted Mark Tuinei at that position.

True but Tui was just a monster and didn't have to deal with the speed rushers of today.

It wouldnt be so bad if one of the late round Olinemen was worth a darn but they havent hit on any of them.

You make an excellent point. I can remember like it was yesterday. San Diego shocked everyone by taking basically their whole secondary in the draft following the one Jammer was drafted in.

Cornerback Sammy Davis (1st round, Texas A&M)
Safety Terrence Kiel (2nd round, Texas A&M)
Cornerback Drayton Florence (2nd round, Tuskegee)

Sammy Davis may not have stuck but Kiel and Forence have combined with Jammer to provide a very solid secondary. Schottenheimer can pretty much put those guys back there and fuggettaboutit. They're all around the same age to so they all came of age together playing in that scheme. I remember having to look those names up when following the draft. No need to look them up anymore.

They compliment Sandy Eggo's down linemen very well. No problem getting pressure there.

My point is that the San Diego defense is solid from front to back. No doubt that front 7 take lots of pressure off of the secondary. The secondary isn't full of any slouches though.

idk, I haven't seen much instances where they had to cover for very long to prove that they aren't slouches

I must have missed where he praised Terrell Owens.

I missed it too! As a matter of fact I see no mention of Terrell Owens in this thread up until right about now.

Hate. It's contagious.

I've watched some of their games. That defense is solid from front to back.

Watching Dallas' last game you might think the Eagles secondary was all that stopping Owens, Glenn and Witten but with a closer look you will see alot of it had to do with guys coming free and putting pressure on Romo and the Eagles DBs knowing they could over play certain routes because they only have to cover for so long before the QB would be sacked. Makes a big difference.

Sorry. Must have been a Pavlovian response to seeing a post with your name on it. And yes, I do hate Terrell Owens. Why do you think it is that people hate him?

I've watched some too, and I see San Diego's front 7 keeping the pressure on constantly

I would have to see the secondary on a day where the front 7 of San Diego was being stunted, before I make a decision either way
