He got injured and has produced very well when healthy, the same as DeMarco, hence the comparison.

He had the starting job last year when Foster went down and Houston is a running team and have been. Tate is decent no he is not better than Murray or at least he has not proven that.

2.5 mill a year for 3 or 4 years.

I'd probably just all together let him walk and draft another guy though. Especially if he misses substantial time again.

that would pretty much make him the lowest paid RB not on a rookie contract.

That's about how much value I put on tailbacks that can't stay healthy and are barely top 10 at the position.

He's just not dependable.

I feel the same way about Sean Lee. Give me a guy with a little less talent but is there almost every game.

No need to invest in injury prone players.

1st 2 season where rough for Murray, this past season started 14 games given the nature of the position that is not bad but it is only 1 year out of 3.

It won't get any easier for him either because of the running style he has.

I would let him walk. I'm fine if he comes back as well but I can just see him being another one of those guys that we regret paying.

I love his demeanor but try to find another back that has a chip on their shoulder with a little more vision.

I don't think you can keep any starting vet RB at 2.5 mill, the market shows that. I'm not looking to see him get some moster contract just a fair contract.

So many are quick to fall for the idea the running game is passe, or that just any Jamoke can carry the tater.

The batting average of being right about this team on this board is so far below the Mendoza line it might not even chart.

A small comment made by Linehan a few weeks ago suggested the Lions were not set up to run effectively. That implies to me he will be out to use the running game for things like keeping the defense off balance and maintaining a lead.

This game is still about balance in all things.

I would not break the bank on Murray, but I would surely retain him. If Romo will avoid changing the play to the things he likes at the line, and runs what's called, this could be a break out year for Murray.

My opinion, by mid November all those so certain Murray is just another guy that can be replaced b y a late round draft choice will be singing a new song.

I think everyone would love that. Keep him, but not break the bank.

If only we could do that for every player! Of course, the player might not go for that. But that's trivial.

What would be the cut off on what you would pay Murray?

Four year, 18.5 total. Nine up front.

Maybe as high as 21.

I think $21M is appropriate, but I might go a little higher. Frank Gore in his prime signed for four years, $25.9M. We all know that DeMarco Murray is not Frank Gore, but he's pretty good. Gore's contract also only had $13.5M guaranteed.

I would give Murray four years, $22.5M with $10.5M guaranteed. Approximately $5M/year average. That's a decent enough cap hit annually (especially if you can take the brunt of it in year one) with incentive-laden years on the tail end, plus lesser dead-money/cap hits in the latter years.

A four year deal also puts his contract year in his age 30 season. After that, even if he's still producing, I let him walk. That gives the Cowboys approximately three years to find his replacement via the draft, four at the most if they wait until letting him walk in free agency to draft his replacement.

I agree. Five a year is not out of the question.

How much, Deion...15 - 20 Million?

Both....

The Cowboys will find a way to take care of Dez. He deserves it...

$5M a year is reasonable for someone who is not only a between the tackles runner, but an elite pass protect back and an elite pass-catcher out of the backfield, IMO. I wouldn't quite put him into elite ball-carrying RB territory, though. He's good, but we all know who's elite, and he wears purple and plays in Minnesota.

However, isn't the One Who Wears Purple also an injury risk?

And how do we as fans know for sure that Murray could not be a real stud with a line that - this is an assumption at this point - can open holes for her to get to the second level?

I have few concerns about resigning Murray. His running style is upright and most of his seasons have been filled with missed games due to injury. On top of this is the changing culture in NFL toward multiple RBs. I equate what happening to NFL RB to whats going on with Centers in NBA. Teams are finding they can be successful and have more flexibility by not tying up too much resources in the position. Most of this is due to ability of teams to draft successful backs in middle rounds.

Yeah he's glass, I heard, according to the standards around here, lol.

Look, no argument from me. I think Murray is a hell of a player.

Not arguing. Just think the difference of opinions on Murray are interesting. I think the kid as a little wiggle that makes him special. Not AD special, but something to take the heat of Romo. I get the impression you think so too.
