While there has been an easy to see philosophical shift to being far more long-sighted and responsible on contracts, I don't think the shift has been to the opposite end of the spectrum, whereby "star" players need to worry......In past "stars" (or even semi-stars) were overpaid and this bites us still today (Barber, Austin, Rat, Spencer maybe, Carr maybe, etc).
Romo was paid. Tryon was paid. Dez is being paid and will be paid long-term (there are a few risks/questions with him in terms of off-field past and a bit on maturity as much as he is an awesome player and has a heart for football). Lee was paid, but had injury....
Running back is a different animal now! Deep draft had to play a role in negotiations. Injury history through NFL and even from College. The amount invested in oline plays a role in terms of draft picks. The numbers don't like about how many years backs produce THESE days and how they play the year following such a work load, etc......Tough call, but very responsible and mature one by front office. They had a limit on Murray's price and wouldn't match Phili. Don't blame Murray, Dallas, or Phili.....all makes sense to me...
