DeMarcus Lawrence looking "weight room big"

That is not necessarily a good thing.. Lifting a bunch of heavy weight does not always translate to being a good football player.

I won't say its a bad thing but if the guy isn't use to playing with the weight than it could be a problem. That being said, one of his weaknesses was considered his size so I can't complain to much if he's getting bigger.

I'll elect to restrain myself from any lofty expectations from Lawrence when he returns. It'll probably take him a while to get back into a groove before he's able to contribute enough for making an impact. It's definitely good to hear he's developing his strength in the weightroom, though. Good work habits are always beneficial. From what was being said early in TC, he was surprisingly strong even before his recent improvement ever occurred.

Yeah I don't expect much from him. Its his rookie year and he's missed most of it. At best I expected him to maybe catch on to things towards the end of the season but that has now been pushed back. WE may not see his imprint on a game until next year.

Of the possible RDEs for this defense in the 2014 draft, I had Lawrence rated top 2 in run defense. He had excellent playing strength and played with good leverage.

He was a better run defender than guys like Anthony Barr, Dee Ford, Marcus Smith, Jeremiah Attaochu, etc..

barr has had a nice start to the season

Heard on "Talking Cowboys," that they saw him "running real hard" during individual practice. Then one of them said, he looked likes he's about ready to return to practice in the near future. (paraphrasing)

The guy didn't develop a huge core in a month, but when you've got a lower body injury, you have more time to work core and upper body. A strong core is nothing but a good thing, don't know why anyone would try and spin it otherwise.

Sounds great, we really need this kid to pan for us considering our anemic pass rush.

We are currently 26th in the NFL in sacks.....................considering we played against QBs like Jake Locker, Austin Davis, and Ryan Fitzpatrick.......................that is just pathetic.

Sacks are not the only measuring stick...pressure on the QB can be just as effective. But, yeah, the Cowboys do need some sacks.

I would agree if he was a wide receiver or a safety, they need some time to learn the system, coverages etc. Bur Lawrence will have one job, get to the QB, if he is healthy, rested and any good, he should make immediate impact.

Curious as to how you rated him as a pass rusher.

Broaddus was saying he weighed in around 270 when we drafted him.

I agree. The guy has a foot injury. So for 10 weeks or so what can he do- makes sense that he would be weight training doing bench presses and rows and other upper body exercises.

Think about it. What would you do if you wanted to workout in the gym but had a foot injury.

Why this is not obvious is beyond me.

And why would increasing bench press or shoulder press make you a slower player ?

Rookies usually need to get stronger anyway. So, this may be a blessing in disguise.

Fixed it.
