I have had a healthy scepticism about this guy. Especially since Dallas paid so much for him.

But I also have allowed my emotions to buy into this team and this beginning. So I know have hopes he hits the ground running and becomes the edge rusher this team sorely needs.

Seattle will probably bring me back to earth.

The Cowboys really need this guy to come through for them...both he and Crawford can save them a bit of bother in next year's draft.

That is not necessarily a good thing.. Lifting a bunch of heavy weight does not always translate to being a good football player.

The guy is a rook, and all rooks have to make a physical adjustment in strength and power once they arrive. Don't knock the Doc. This may be a god send once he does hit the field.

I hope he has been doing dips on a parallel bar so that he has strength in a dipping motion as well...as to the torso, ever see a defensive end that was fast enough to turn a corner do a bull rush as well with out a very strong torso?

One of the knocks on Lawrence was that he would need to get bigger and stronger to be a good WDE in a 4-3. This is good news that he's been doing a lot in the weight room..

I like players from Boise St. and for some reason their program seems to be underrated but have put out some pretty decent talent in the NFL. Heck, our best two players on corner and on the Dline are from Boise St. Thus I think were gonna be just fine with Lawrence.

Check out BSU's replacement for Lawrence, Kamalei Correa. He will be at least as good Lawrence.

He's likely bulked up a bit given he's had extra time in the weight room due to the injury...and perhaps also adapting to an NFL nutrition regimen. But his strength was already viewed as somewhat of a surprise asset.

Marinelli said this about D. Lawrence.....

"Lawrence has some strength to him," defensive coordinator Marinelli said following Dallas' recent minicamp. "He's a lot stronger than I thought he was. He's got some power moves that he uses to his advantage. You don't always see that from young guys. They have to get in (the weight room) and eventually it's something they can add to their game. But he's got that power right now. I think that's going to help him this year."

Marinelli has also called him a 'very tough' kid.

This is what he looked like 5 months ago. He needed to get bigger! 300 pound Left Tackles would have their way with him otherwise.

I think I read 260lbs for him and my first thought was that he was a little too light but Denver has Demarcus at 258...whether or not this is accurate is another matter but that is some good news from the DC.

Demarcus Ware sure looks like a stronger 258 though.

I won't bash this guy until I see him play in Marinelli's system. I have faith. He may not be a HOFer but they saw enough potential to trade up... and I trust these scouts and coaches. Maybe not Jerry, but I definitely trust the college scouts.. and to an extent I'm starting to trust Jason.

When I saw him during the draft, my initial thought was "hmmm. This guy is very slight". I'm sure he is quick as all get out but I recall that being my initial impression. You do have to have some level of strength at the point of attack to be able to successfully rush the QB at the NFL level. I think this additional weight room work will be a major positive for him.

Of the possible RDEs for this defense in the 2014 draft, I had Lawrence rated top 2 in run defense. He had excellent playing strength and played with good leverage.

He was a better run defender than guys like Anthony Barr, Dee Ford, Marcus Smith, Jeremiah Attaochu, etc..

I think the team MAY have learned a lesson with Claiborne. I certainly hope so because Claiborne's issues have set the team back a bit in the secondary. Jones said that they have not given up on him yet, but he faces a really tough rehab and an even tougher road back to being a starter for Dallas...I am not sure he makes it back.

I'll elect to restrain myself from any lofty expectations from Lawrence when he returns. It'll probably take him a while to get back into a groove before he's able to contribute enough for making an impact. It's definitely good to hear he's developing his strength in the weightroom, though. Good work habits are always beneficial. From what was being said early in TC, he was surprisingly strong even before his recent improvement ever occurred.
