As a reminder.....

Quarterbacks at that time:

Drew Bledsoe (just signed as a FA $23M for 3 years)
Drew Henson (just going into year 3)
Tony Romo (just going into year 3)

I know they liked Romo. But for crying out loud. How in the heck do you pass on a franchise QB with the 2nd of your two first rounders with the 20th pick???
Yep...

Bledsoe was not the guy he had been before and in no way was the QB of the future.

Henson and Romo had up to that point showed nothing. They considered cutting Romo that year.

I saw a lot of mocks that had the Cowboys going after Rodgers. Still can't wrap my head around it.

Parcells was too tied to "his" guys.

That's cool. Just another outstanding talent that was wasted in Dallas. He had to go earn a SB elsewhere because this culture of "good enough" isn't made for excellence.

Although I;m sure Jerry has some well earned talent at holding hi likker I just hope he isn't quite as deep into the Johnny Blue this time that he speaks at the Pro Football HOF. His words were thick and he didn't purport himself with his bred in southern genteel.

Anyway, I love Booger, And he may be a ****** sometimes but he's my ******!

GO COWBOYS !

I’m surprised Ware picked Jerry, because he wasn’t happy when he was asked to take a pay cut and released after he refused.
He probably wasn't happy. But then he won a Super Bowl with another team. And then he probably viewed his life in perspective, i.e., it actually turned out better for me in the long run, so why should I hold a perpetual grudge against Jerry?

People do grow and ultimately see the futility in allowing others to control them mentally for the rest of their lives.

Parcells likely knew he wasn't going to be around long. Coaches with that mentality aren't going to want to wait on a developmental quarterback.
And especially not taking a quarterback with a first round pick.

Leaving the Cowboys turned out good for him, but like the thread title it is a surprise he chose Jerry to present him at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

I don’t remember any mocks showing the Cowboys going after Aaron Rodgers. This one by Mel Kiper had them taking Sean Merriman. Most mocks had the Cowboys taking a defensive player at #11 and most had Aaron Rodgers going in the top five. Even after Rodgers started to fall I don’t remember anyone on ESPN during the draft coverage say the Cowboys may consider taking Aaron Rodgers or should take him. The team just signed Drew Bledsoe in February. Although Henson and Romo hadn’t shown anything they were young developing QBs. It wouldn’t have made any sense to use either one of their first round picks on Rodgers. The team was having major defensive issues and Parcells knew he wouldn’t be around long. He was brought in to win immediately. This is why he went after Vinny and Bledsoe.

I saw one 2005 mock draft that had the Cowboys taking WR Troy Williamson at number 11. Good thing they didn’t take him! He only played five years in the league and his best season was 37 catches for 455 yards with no TDs. He only scored 4 TDs his entire five-year career.

I don't remember anyone with any cred having Rodgers coming to us

TELL me why so many teams passed on him if he was so OBVIOUSLY a franchise QB?

Revisionist garbage.
