As a reminder.....

Quarterbacks at that time:

Drew Bledsoe (just signed as a FA $23M for 3 years)
Drew Henson (just going into year 3)
Tony Romo (just going into year 3)

I know they liked Romo. But for crying out loud. How in the heck do you pass on a franchise QB with the 2nd of your two first rounders with the 20th pick???
SURE. Then why did so many other teams pass on what was so CLEARLY A FRANCHISE QB?

Total horse crap

They guy looked really good at Ohio State. Clean as a whistle.
And for your education the record of sons of NFL players coming into the NFL is VERY good.
Just turned out he was as soft as a pillsbury dough boy. BUT NO ONE SUSPECTED THAT. NOT ONE DRAFT REPORT SAID THAT.

Sometimes you cannot know before they get here.

He got the team to the playoffs with Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick. The man could still coach. Build with defense and fundamentals. It still works.
Not just those two knuckleheads either. the 2003 Cowboys was ALL smoke and mirrors. But he got them to the playoffs.

Leaving the Cowboys turned out good for him, but like the thread title it is a surprise he chose Jerry to present him at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Fair enough.

However, just based on what I have been able to gather from Jerry Jones, he is incredibly loyal. Stay on his good side, and enjoy the benefits of the Cowboys organization for the rest of your life, similar to Michael Irvin (which is why Irvin STRONGLY ENCOURAGED Cee Dee to accept Jerry's offer of No. "88." I read into that situation Irvin saying, "Look, Cee Dee. You want to stay in this man's good graces because it will benefit you in the long run). Cross Jerry and he'll hold a grudge beyond the grave.

Shrug.

He was drafted cause his dad played for Parcellls. Who had a son that produced at a high level? Cause there ain't that many good ones.

I don't remember anyone with any cred having Rodgers coming to us

TELL me why so many teams passed on him if he was so OBVIOUSLY a franchise QB?

Revisionist garbage.
He was considered a bit of a project. Physically gifted but he needed time to learn more complicated NFL systems. They expected him to go late in the 1st because of that.

And I'm sorry you don't remember it, I remember quite a bit of speculation. I was hoping they would draft him because I didn't expect Bledsoe to hang around much longer and (incorrectly) had no faith in Romo. I thought it was a mistake then.

It's an opinion. I'm sorry you don't share it and no I'm not going to spend my day going on the wayback machine to try to find speculation on if the Cowboys were going to pick a QB in that draft.

I will say I agree with you that there's no way Rodgers was considered a slam dunk. There's also the other side of it...there were a lot of people that were very high on Marcus Spears. It wasn't considered a reach to get him when the Cowboys did.

Heck, there were also people that felt the Cowboys should've drafted Merriman over Ware and thought he was going to be better.

So, correct, revisionism colors the judgment and always will.

I remember the Merriman-Ware debates. I heard rumors about Merriman and steroids before the draft. Glad we opted for Ware over Steroid boy.

What's interesting is that Ware wanted to go to Auburn, but coaches there thought he was too thin. He opted for Troy instead. I'm sure Auburn wished they would have signed him much like University of Virginia missed out on Steph Curry.

Oh, I remember the Auburn thing. I'm an Auburn grad... now there's one I wish we had.

And I'll be clear, I thought not picking Rodgers was wrong then, but I don't now.

They had their guy in Romo, and if they did really know that behind the scenes, then it was a waste to try to go after Rodgers.

I'm not sure Rodgers would've won anything more or less than Romo did and he's such a diva that I'm glad he never got anywhere near the Cowboys.

That's cool. Just another outstanding talent that was wasted in Dallas. He had to go earn a SB elsewhere because this culture of "good enough" isn't made for excellence.
Lol, we get crap like this in every thread. Enjoy this season. It is a great time to be a Cowboy fan.

At the very least, I don't think Ware will have to worry about transportation to the event.

The only great homegrown Cowboy after the 90’s team to get himself a ring.

I guess I should include Chris Canty too although not here as long.

Not used to having so many memorable players in our history without at least one ring.

Zeke just added to the collection.

I’m surprised Ware picked Jerry, because he wasn’t happy when he was asked to take a pay cut and released after he refused.
Just goes to show , we really don't KNOW what's going on with these guys (Billionaires and Super Stars)

All we know is Narratives, pushed by know nothing ,talking heads Ala Colon Cowshyte and Stephen A.zzwipe Smith

When you look up the phrase, "He gave 110%", you will also see DeMarcus Wares photo.

Jerry- Thanks for wasting my HOF career by making me play for a joke of a coach.
