you all dont know wat you are talking about, are you guys going to tell me that ware looked great? or the team in general, lets admit it , they sucked tonight , i'm a die hard cowboy fan but i'm f*****g pissed , i'm dissapointed, i thought we would look alot better
Fortunately for us, your vulgar opinion is pretty much worthless...
Here's what you do-- go down to your bank bright and early Monday morning, take out all your money, and go see if that's enough to buy a freakin' CLUE...
Until then, lemme 'splain how preseason goes for MOST teams:
You play the first game to evaluate personnel, you don't particularly worry about winning... ditto the last game, you don't play your starters much (to avoid getting them hurt), you focus on the "bubble" players... you want to see if any of them leap out at you, if any of them make plays... in the middle two games, you try to get your team ready to play that season opener... especially the third game, which is where you give your starters a half or more...
That's what the Cowboys did tonight... I'm told that in pregame interviews, Parcells said that he'd be sticking with the 3-4 defense exclusively tonight, regardless of the situation... haven't seen the game yet, the videotape's waiting at home for when I get off work, so I don't know if that's the way it played out... but if it is, that's somewhat different from the way it will work in the regular season, when we'll see a 4-3 (or a 4-2-5) defense in second or third and long situations... IOW, the Boys didn't show their whole hand, as they shouldn't when they'll be playing the Cards for real in October... the Boys also apparently didn't blitz a whole lot, from what I've read on this and other boards... in a 3-4 scheme, they'll be blitzing with some regularity...
Meanwhile, from Parcells quotes taken AFTER the game, the Cards threw some wrinkles at the Boys, things they weren't ready for, because the Cowboys rather expected the Cards to play the game much like they did, for evaluation purposes... but apparently the Cards felt the need for a win, perhaps to fire up their fan base, so they actually gameplanned for this thing...
This means the Cards took a somewhat different approach to the game, they placed more emphasis on winning it, while the Boys placed more of an emphasis on player evaluation...
Yeah, there were some areas of performance that were disappointing, but now Parcells knows what he has to focus on... and in spite of the difference in approach, the Cowboys STILL almost won the game...
And there WERE bright spots, in spite of your drunken analysis:
1) Mat McBriar was brilliant...
2) Jason Witten was solid...
3) The defense held the Cards to 260 yards, on 54 plays (less than 5 yards per play), and 13 points... you'll win a lot of games with those defensive stats...
4) Tom Crowder and Justin Beriault contributed big plays, and probably improved their chances of making the 53 man roster... from what I've read elsewhere, Ryan Fowler looked pretty good in the second half, too...
5) Anthony Henry was apparently pretty good in run support in his limited time in the game...
Yeah, there were negatives, but even those had some value... for example, this game probably sealed Torrin Tucker's fate, he's outta here... this is a GOOD thing, the Boys won't waste any more time trying to convince themselves he's a good blocker... I won't bother going into the other negatives, they have been beaten to death by your fellow Chicken Littles...
Preseason doesn't mean nothing, but it doesn't mean near as much as you seem to think it is... I'd suggest you go look up the Cowboys' preseason record during some of their Super Bowl years... you might be surprised at what you learn...
I'd also suggest that in the future, you sober up before you post... it will keep you from making yourself look so profoundly foolish...
