Sumlin yes please. Johnny Germany? No thanks on the ballin bigot.

Privately, Jerry has to be giggling like a school girl thinking about the marketing possibilities of JFB wearing the star. I would be shocked if they didnt go all in for him.

SEA and SF are going to run into some serious issues when they have to sign their QBs to their second deals - assuming they stay on the team.

So how have the Patriots been able to do it for so long ?

If they build correctly, they will be fine. Hell, the Cowboys signed a big FA last season with the cap penalty, the Commanders traded up and drafted at #2 for a QB. And both of those teams have been miserable for quite a while.

One of the very top FAs is Dashon Goldson of SF. It looks like he may be going to Tampa.
San Fran has already lost TE Delanie Walker and NT Isaac Sopoaga.

Thats two loses and maybe another huge loss.
The net may be negative so far f you add it up.
Of course after draft day, they will be be looking good f they play it right.

The Patriots have been able to deal away players for picks when the time is right. They will also let players walk away when the price tag is too high.

I'm just talking about the younger teams that haven't paid the premium price for a franchise QB.

Don't worry the Skins will have to make that decision in 4 years with RG3 and I'll bet you that it will come at the expense of retaining quality veteran pieces on the team.

improve so dramatically this offseason.

SF gets Boldin and adds the 2nd pick in the 2nd round by trading their backup qb.

Seattle adds Harvin to an offense that averaged 30 points a game with a rookie qb.

Dallas? Sits in the cap penalty box and loses former #1 picks that should never have been drafted.

Help me out. Need a reason to think Dallas will compete for a superbowl soon.

We have one playoff win in 17 years and you are worried about Superbowls?

Sumlin and Johnny Football in 2014.

I pray for this!

Signing a couple of "jags" is not a bad thing. We could use a couple of quality "jags" in the secondary, special teams, DLine, etc.

Pat McQuistan, who wasn't good a enough to make our roster, started for the Seahawks

It's all about Romo putting points on the board

Well, playing in a perennially crappy division helps. Yes, that's too simplistic. The Pats aren't perfect by any means, but they do a lot of things right. But you can't ignore the fact that they get six games a year against the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins.

And if the Cowboys had the same level of success the Pats have had, there would still be people on this forum saying "How many Super Bowls have they won in the last nine years?"

Coughing up a more than a first for an overrated WR and then paying that same overrated WR an absurd sum of money is not improving "dramatically." If the Cowboys have proven anything, it's that trading a bunch of picks for skill positions is no way to build a franchise.

Why do you care about the 49ers signing a receiver who is in decline? Would you take their receivers over ours? In theory both teams appear to be in better shape than the Cowboys but a lot depends on if both their quarterbacks continue to play at the same level as this season.

It's not like the Jets and Dolphins are just horrible every year. Saying it's a crappy division oversimplifies it to a great extent.

I'm really sad, too. Not really. There's a good chance those teams don't both even make the playoffs.

Did you just say there is a good chance those teams(SF & Sea) don't make the playoffs? haha..... yeah right. There is a good chance OUR time won't make the playoffs.

SF will be paying the piper in a couple of years for all those years of top 15 picks. How many of there players are still on rookie deals?

Kilpatrick
Crabtree
Smith
Ilupatani
Davis (OL)

plus Vernon Davis, Willis, Smith will need new deals.

Let's not forget that the new GM has not been great at drafting. Look at last year's #1 pick.

Any given year is anybody's guess. They are a good team and built good, but I don't see them being a dynasty.

The Jets were in the AFC title game twice in a row just a couple of years back.

Again, you never know what will happen but it is frustrating watching other teams attempt to fill holes while we sit. But as other years have shown FA is a crap shoot so no need to fret. I worry more about draft. Our theme song this off season should be "Thrift Shop."
