He not only helps the team now, but they aren't tied to his contract as it expires at the end of the season. Depending on how he plays, you can either extend him or might be able to receive a comp pick if he signs elsewhere (not sure of the comp rules)
Thats a Howie move. Look at Swift. They get him for the year and get a pick when he leaves.

The thing about draft picks isn’t always that you lose a player you think is better (and younger) than Henry. It’s that you don’t wanna be bored and feel left out when draft time comes.

It’s like eating your vegetables or something, it tastes bad but future you will be happy

Not going to lie. The idea of not watching Jerry fist bump after his second round pick of the next project or DUI doesnt really bother me.

The OL has looked much worse then last year and we have are starters playing. Is it the new scheme, is it lack of continuity, is it injuries?
I don’t think it’s the scheme.

I think it’s primarily injuries, then continuity, then age/regression— in that order.

If they pick up their production— the whole offense will function better. I think being at home, being healthy, and coming off the bye will be good medicine for this team.

We get to 5-2 and head to Philly for a gigantic matchup on 11/5. Hopefully we head there with Derrick Henry in the backfield or another decent LBer or CB on the roster lol

You skipped over the part about the Ravens being the favorites to land Henry. Another organization where winning actually matters. Apparently they arent as worried about the money part.
They probably are but it doesn’t get reported on because who cares about the ravens. Cowboys probably not even in talks but you know how the ravens drive clicks.

For us to get Henry would equate to Jerry admitting he was wrong on Pollard and Vaughn. Not going to happen. Jerry is never wrong on player evaluations because he's the smartest owner/GM in the NFL. We needed o-line help for a couple of seasons now. Jerry doesn't see it that way, so here we are. Another wasted year.
oh the irony of henry if we go back to zeke/jaylon smith vs ramsey/henry

Absolutely.

You owe Henry 6.3 million for the rest of the season. Lock him up for 2-3 years and let Henry / Dowdle be your 1-2 next season
Trading a high draft pick and THEN locking him up for another 2-3 years would be really really dumb. He's a 30 year old RB with high mileage.

I’m attributing it to two things:

1. A predictable scheme which shows little creativity.
2. An ineffective passing game that’s not scaring opponents into backing off the line of scrimmage.

if they eat some of the money and the pick is less than a 3rd, i think there is potential...unforutnatly we just dont have a ton of picks left below the 3rd

Derrick Henry had 1500 yards rushing last year. Only Josh Jacobs had more rushing yards than him. At 29/30 years old, Henry is still one of the best players at his position, I wish you guys stop with this notion that Henry is washed up and about to hit the retirement home.

Henry on this Cowboys team would open up the passing game if defenses want to put 8 in the box to stop the run

The extension part is dumb. There are other considerations. The NFC number one seed is up for grabs. Philly’s QB is banged up, he’s turning the ball over at a high rate, and the Eagles, like a number of teams, are having red zone difficulties. They have to consider a deal for Henry. And if they acquire him Dallas doesn’t. That makes the deal a little more palatable. And Philly has two 2nd round picks. That Saints pick will be better than Dallas’. If the Eagles struggle against the Commanders, like they did a few weeks ago, they will address the situation. Home field in the playoffs makes sending a 2nd plus worth it this season. I still think the Ravens are the most likely landing spot, but a nine game “rental” for a 2nd, otherwise dumb for a 30 year RB, might make some sense right now.
