DE's Dallas prefers

I am not in disagreement with what Coach M wants, that talent does not lie in the late twenties or early thirties. Thomas can play a variety of different positions along the defensive line and is a devastating run-stopper who can also rush the passer, Thomas is not a classic bender. The comparison to Jack Crawford is truthful but not accurate.

IMO these guys will be off the menu by the time the Boys get a selection and Thomas starts looking like a viable candidate.

Myles Garrett, EDGE, Texas A&M
Charles Harris, EDGE, Mizzou
Derek Barnett, EDGE, Tennessee
Takkarist McKinley, EDGE, UCLA
Carl Lawson, EDGE, Auburn
Tim Williams, EDGE, Alabama

Leaving us this available talent to choose from:

  1. Harold Landry Not as big as he plays, an arsenal of moves and speed to burn.
  2. Jordan Willis Can play either the left or right side in a 4-3.
  3. Dawuane Smoot His size probably limits him to a 3-4 OLB. Very fast, dangerous.
  4. Ejuan Price small for a DE, he knows how to get after the QB
  5. Demarcus Walker
  6. Ryan Anderson Junk yard dog out there, disrupting everything in his path.
  7. Hassan Reddick
  8. Solomon Thomas Stanford
  9. Taco Charlton moving up the boards
  10. Josh Carraway speed rusher and sack artist at TCU
  11. Sam Hubbard Ohio State
  12. Daeshon Hall out of Texas A&M
  13. Tyquan Lewis Ohio State
  14. Chris Wormley Michigan
  15. Carroll Phillips Illinois
  16. Hunter Dimick Utah
  17. Deatrich Wise Jr Arkansas played at Carrollton HS
Smoot is the same size as Demarcus Lawrence coming out it seems. I don't get the 3-4 olb projection. I'm taking Landry or Smoot and that's really it. Round 2 I'd take caraway and depending on his combine performance I may take him in the first. He has Gregory and leanord Floyd build

I have kinda cooled off on Smoot. He seems like he can't finish. gets tons of pressures but cant finish them off with body drilling sack into the turf. I would take both Ryan Anderson and TJ Watt over Carraway although i do like Carraway in the 3rd if we miss out on edge rushers in the 1st & 2nd round.

All Mayowa has is the athleticism to be a speed rusher and thats it. Hes the type of player you put at the end of the depth chart and develop like we tried with Ryan Russell. We basically went out and signed someone elses Ryan Russell to be our pass rush specialist.
Mayowa has had a sack in each of the last two games, including a strip sack of Manning last night. He should have been awarded a second strip sack, or at least a QBH, because he hurried Manning into losing the ball in the backward motion of his delivery, with Dallas recovering. He has four sacks on the year, even though he's played sparingly. He's 6-3, 240 & only 25. Put another 15 pounds of muscle on him in the off season, & we might have something there. He's really been coming on lately, & I'm encouraged about it.

That Giants line was less than average, I still like what he did, explosive at times. Would be a Dak in a box if he turns out to be a keeper.

He did it against the 2 worst offensive lines in football and last night against the worst Left Tackle in the NFL. Hes a decent rotational piece at best on a playoff team. Lets not go overboard. We need a real starting right end.

No one was going overboard. By the way, I didn't see any of our other DEs getting close to that much pressure when they were facing the LT. I've been as loud as anyone about drafting stud pass rushers, but you have to also take a look at who you have & get the most out of them. By the way, Mayowa hasn't only been making his presence known the last few games. He makes an impact in pretty much every game I've seen him in. You start with quickness & speed & work out from there. Mayowa has both.

We have no other right ends. Tapper is out for the year & Gregory is a moron. Those where our other 2 right ends. Lawrence has packed on too much weight to be a speed rusher, Jack Crawford is a DT/SDE. Can play base down RDE on 1st downs at the most and Crawford and Irving belong in the interior. Crawford was disruptive this game from the strong side but Giants OTs are horrible. And our DTs have been very disruptive. McClain and Collins are constantly collapsing the pocket and helping our ends and blitzers.

Good!!!!

Jack Crawford's scouting report on Thomas says he is slow.

on Thomas says he is slow.[/QUOTE]

You mean late first round slow? Or just slow? He can play the game anywhere across the line on defense. He is not a quick twitch, he does bend and with ease. I am keeping him on the menu hoping like always someone drops. Picking in the late twenties or thirties brings you some less than perfect choices.
We have these teams ahead of us who have a real need for edge players:
Cleveland(pick twice in 1st), Ravens, Colts, Steelers, Bengals, Atlanta, and the Lions. Expecting a quick twitch, fast, bending, talent laden DE might be a pipe dream. Just like getting Dak in the late fourth. Do you think we can do it again?

Edge rusher is first priority for everyone but Atlanta and Lions and their need is 1a compared to our 1. At minimum we have five, at maximum we have 7 teams with DE as first priority. We can argue about talent, but not first tier talent if we are taking the 6th or eighth choice at DE. We would need several Tunsil videos to be released on draft day for that to happen.

Mayowa was 6-3 240 when he was a rookie. Many websites including the Cowboys just used what nfl.com listed him at. He's 6-3 265.

Browns have pretty much said they will take Myles Garrett with their 1st but if Leonard Fournette or Dalvin Cook is sitting at their 2nd 1st round pick then no way they pass. They will attempt to do what we did with Zeke.

Ravens need DB's just as bad as they need edge rushers. You could say they are in need even more. They took a 3-4 OLB with their 2nd last year and a 3-4 DE with their 3rd. I dont see them just giving up on them. They also need another young WR. If Mike Williams is sitting their then i see no way they pass on him.

Colts are in need of Linebackers period. whether its an edge rusher or a beast inside linebacker they need them. They also in need of OG's. They are currently playing an undrafted guard and a guard taken in the 7th. They could use a true road grader or 2 to help protect Luck.

Steelers most likely go edge rusher but Bud Dupree is starting to break out for them and get significant time. A ILB could also be a top need. With Timmons a free agent and 31 when free agency starts, A fresh new face at ILB could be at the top of the list as well.

Bengals will be in prime position to take someone like Barnett or Tim Williams. They pick early though so its expected.

Falcons need help on defense everywhere except linebackers. They could go multiple ways with their 1st.

Lions are most likely to steal the DE that is sliding and hoping we will get.

I have a feeling DL/Edge and DB will half of the picks of the 1st round at the very least

DL/Edge: Garrett, Allen, Barnett, Tim Williams, Lawson, Harris, McDowell, Walker
WIth McKinley, Landry, & Smoot all in the conversation.

CB/S: Humphrey, Wilson, Tabor, Lattimore, Jones, Jackson, Adams, Peppers,
With King, Tankersley, & Hooker(if he changes his mind about returning) all in the conversation.

With teams having multiple needs and both DL and DB having hard to pass up players, im not as concerned about not getting a quick twitch rusher to where i would need to take a slow plodding one just to attempt to upgrade our pass rush.

This draft, including the first round is deep in edge rushers. Someone not named Thomas will be there.
