How about if the Cowboys draft DeSean Jackson out of Cal not just to be a WR but a punt/kick off returner? I know he is a bit under-sized (6' - 170lbs) but he could develope into a Hester for the Cowboys. I don't think the Cowboys need a TO-size receiver right now.

The question for me is when should they draft him? Some mock drafts have him picked in the 'teens.

What do you guys think?

Dallas needs a punt returner more than a kickoff guy. I wouldn't object to getting him because of that and they need a deep threat opposite of Owens, so Jackson fits. Little concerned about his size though.

If you argue he's too short, then I'd direct you to the likes of Steve Smith (Panthers) and guys like him.

Again.....It's not his HEIGHT....it's his build.

He's built NOTHING like Steve Smith or Santana Moss...guys that are short, but stocky and strong.

He's built more like Todd Pinkston, Brandon Lloyd, or Kelvin Martin. Skinny.... and slight.

You may be overstating the body difference just a tad.

Desean coming out of college.

They look pretty similar in body build to me, the difference isn't as monumental as you seem determined to make it. DeSean may have smaller calves, at least based on this one comparison, but the rest of their build seems comparable.

They were/are both pretty skinny in college.

More recent head shot of Moss, has obviously put on a little muscle since his Miami days, no more pencil neck.

Pinkston on the other hand, had just about no muscle tone, even in the pros.

Actually, I think Jackson still looks skinnier in those pics. He still looks closer to Pinkston and Lloyd than he does to Moss or Smith.

And it wasn't until Moss bulked up a little that he became a better player. Can Jackson bulk up?

You never know.....

Not only that, he averaged 11.7 yards per catch, and seemed to disappear in games.

I admitted in an earlier post that I hadn't seen him play much....but other than a huge return vs the Vols, he didn't do much at all in those games.

I was against drafting Ginn last year due to his size (or lack of it). Jackson is smaller.....skinnier.

Now, I wouldn't be too opposed to drafting him in round 2. But you really have to hedge your bets when you draft a player in round one.

Oh don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want this guy as my #1 receiver, just like I wouldn't want Ginn as my #1. It's not exactly a stellar WR draft class.

That is what I have been trying to say as well. The Cowboys have TO who is the #1 WR, but Glenn is old and need a replacement. I think Jackson could fill in the position of a skilled WR who could really help you with the return game.

Well if the kid falls to the 22nd pick, how can you pass on him? #9 in the first round is a bad idea, but 22nd in the 1st? That's good value, I'd say.

Or if he is there at 28, which very well might. I would be surprised if he is still there, but I don't think Dallas should pass up on him if he is there at 28.

Jackson at least infuses speed into this O, something we sorely needed
Not just the O, but special teams as well. Since T. Glenn has gone down, I haven't seen many of those deep, and I mean deep, passes or flea flickers.

He may not be the ideal #1 WR but we have one in TO. His body style may be slightly thinner than Moss or Smith but he is faster than both and he has world class speed that would bring a tremendous element to our team. Plus he's a great return man and he can catch.

Well faster how? For example, he may be faster than Welker, but I have seen no one catch a pass and turn upfield with the intent to do damage faster than Welker in some time.

First things first: DeSean will not be going over the middle to catch a ball and don’t bother to ask him to do it. It’s not going to happen. Then again, does he really need to do that? DeSean will have to learn how to use his speed, beat the bump and run and get stronger to take the pounding at the next level. He has a bad habit of peeking on the deep ball in zone coverage when he sees a safety coming across the field to take his head off. He is also a lousy blocker. Oh, he can block when he wants to, but it’s a problem getting him to want to.

Scouts put out the pros and cons of every player If you only focus on the cons, Dallas shouldn't be drafting.
