If you draft a guy....that cannot get open on his own.....well guess what....the coaching staff should SCHEME him open....we don't do that! But I digress!!!

If you draft a guy that can't get open on his own then he isn't worth scheming to get open. You scheme to get someone open when they're being double or triple teamed. NFL wide receivers are expected to win one on one match ups.

That aside, the problem is that Street was open plenty of times and dropped the ball or was too scared to make the play.

Watch him now catch 50 balls for 700 yds and 8 TDs and become a mainstay in the Pats' offense and a new found fave of Brady. Seriously, if he goes elsewhere and produces to the level that we've seen Marty B do or even Andre Holmes (just to call out a couple of examples in recent years) I think this will be another huge indictment of the coaching staff. Players not producing here after several seasons and then doing it elsewhere once we cut them loose has been a troubling trend. Will be interesting to monitor.

God bless him if that happens.

But what if Beasley and Williams both catch 60+ balls and over 800 yards(Williams), that's still in indictment on this staff?
And add in solid production from Butler.

Marty B(who is a loser), had talent, and showed more talent that Street ever did. Street has been nothing but pedestrian.

Let's just see if they can find a way to extract something from him that we couldn't.

If they somehow manage to achieve success in doing so, then congratulations are in order.

They did it with 2 short receivers who don't have the greatest NFL skillset.

Those guys are quicker than the lumbering Dev Street. Cowboys get no credit for getting production out of Cole Beasley? Y'all ready to praise Cheat for possibly turning Street into a player, than-you take for granted the growth Beasley showed this preseason.

But Beasley was a great undrafted talent. Anybody could've turned him into a player. - self cowboy fans who hate the Cowboys

Defensive backs get paid to do a job too.

I remember liking Street as a late round pick out of Pitt. He knew how to get open and had reliable hands, you don't become the all-time catch leader at a pretty good football school like Pitt by accident. Maybe he's just not athletic enough to get open in the NFL, but I can still see him catching on for a decent career though. Jason Avant esque perhaps

what team schemes to get a slow, tall and marginally talented receiver open, when there happens to be 4 better options on the roster?
if he had all those traits before we drafted him....WHY did we draft him?

Or you keep a player, instead, that is better at using his talent to create his own opportunities and not have to be "schemed" in, maybe? Street had three off-seasons with this team and amassed a total of 9 catches in that time. Cole Beasley, on the other hand, managed 9 catches in his first three games. But, you're right, you digress.

If you can't get manage to snatch more than 9 balls in two full seasons on the active roster, scheme isn't your problem.

Maybe he won't drop as many balls in NE since they're gonna be under-inflated
