Dez asking for 17m a year

it's business for both sides. Dez has a right to ask to be the highest paid WR in the game. if the cowboys feel the best move is to not pay him, fine. but there's no way that's the best move. we need him, especially this year, and badly.

I think we are very much in agreement on Dez's value to the team but when Dez is asking the Cowboys to make him the highest paid WR in the game, the size of his family is not relevant to the negotiations.

Let none of us single out Bryant, me included. The size of every player's family is irrelevant within all contract negotiations.

The "17 million" part was just hyperbole on my part. I was referencing the #family crap and the "I have a family to feed" BS.

And, if 13 million was cool, this deal would be done. I don't believe for one second the Cowboys wouldn't do that.

I don't understand why the Cowboys or any other team should be on the hook for multiple or guaranteed seasons if a player gets hurt. It kills the team against the cap and the team still has to replace the injured star.

A player can always get an insurance policy if they are that nervous, but every year a majority of the players are playing without a safety net or they are still on their rookie deal.

Dez has made 11.8m so far, is due 12.8m this year as soon as he signs and has probably made another 20m off the filed with endorsements. Feeding his family and security was taken care of a long time ago.

So in your mind a contract only works to the teams benefit?

Isnt that how it works in the nfl anyway? Only to the team's benefit? This erson just wants to take it further. The nonguaranteed thing doesnt make any sense to me. I kind of understand why all contracts cant be guaranteed, but not entirely. It feels like they shouldnt be called contracts.

No not entirely because of the bonus money.

The way that guy talks is that the team should have no liability when cutting somebody mid contract

Why should a team have to keep paying for someone that is injured? If the League gave them a credit against the salary cap I could understand it, but that is not how it works.

Russell Wilson just announced he was getting a large insurance policy this year.

Most of the League is working without a safety net, why should we care more about the guys that have already made big bucks. No cares about the guys on their rookie deals.

Dez could actually cost himself even more money if he skips games.

If he misses Week One he forfeits 750k in 2015, but it would also lower his overall cap hit to 12.05m.

That means if DAL tagged him again in 2016 it would be 12.05 x 120% = 14.5m instead of 15.4m.

"Bryant changed to Condon and Roc Nation's Kim Miale in November and there have been few discussions since."

This is from an ESPN article. I've suspected all along RN was behind the contract holdup with Dez. More evidence that's the case.

So let's just ignore the Tom Condon part right?

Or the fact that the Cowboys have been widely reported as the ones not offering anything new in contract proposals.

Because they signed a contract with that person and uh because the person was injured performing a duty for said team.

Do you really not understand that.

That is why I say "Don't sign such a one-sided contract".

Dallas is being cautious because of Dez' behavior history, but it applies to injuries as well.

But Dez wants everyone to just forget about all of his off field issues.

When I read things like that I wonder if people really only follow NFL 365 days a year. What happens in MLB, EPL, or NHL?...or NBA? I don't know how NBA works.

He deserves a fair wage, he should be paid as a top 5 receiver easily and should have a similar contract to Fitzgerald or Megatron but he should also consider that he is hurting the team if he financially straps them. His real money will come from endorsements and such should the team win a Super Bowl or two because of his help. If he takes it all, that ain't happening. Need money for other players too..the answer is in the middle.
