Dez Bryant is the Most Overrated Player in Football

People are letting the OL off so easy.

Oh, this was a terrible team effort all the way around, no doubt. I'm just pointing out the elephant in the room. Dez is an average NFL receiver...at best.

I don't know if that's possible, but it stood out to me that the team steered clear of reworking Bryant's deal whatsoever. Actions, not words.

Wouldn't go so far as to call him average, but he did have a second straight bad game, no question.

He is certainly paid like he's in the top ten. And he is still on the team, which also speaks to organizational ineptitude.

The ONLY thing I'll say for pro-Dez, who do they have playing opposite him? Butler is going up against teams 2nd or 3rd cb and he can't get open. Williams was hurt today thus had no get off the line speed. Beez isn't allowed to go further than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. Of course dez looks bad when he's the guy the D is paying attention to. Noah Brown > Butler. Maybe he can stretch the field so it frees up Dez. As for today, I'm blaming the altitude.

Good point. All we ever hear is that Beasley is uncoverable - then we never seem to get him in the matchups that exploit this. If teams are rolling coverage to Dez Beasley should be tearing it up.

If they're not - Dez should be much better than he's been. There is simply no middle ground on this.

Dez has never been a good route runner, and accordingly, he has always struggled to get separation. He used to compensate for this by winning in 50/50 balls and fly routes, but that hasn't happened in the last couple seasons. That jump ball in the end zone (in the 3rd quarter I think?) was the type of catch Dez is paid to make, and instead it was batted away because he jumped for it while off balance, falling backwards. Additionally, Dak is not very good at throwing fade, slant, or go routes, which are Dez's 3 main routes. Even when Dak hits him in the hands, he muffs the catch and hands the defense an interception. Very disappointed in Dez over the past couple seasons. Dez's route running was supposed to develop as he got older, but if anything it's getting worse. It's clear that he doesn't take pride in improving his route running, because it hasn't progressed at all since his third year. He's still a valuable player no doubt, but he's no longer in the conversation as a top 5 receiver, and over the past few years, he's fallen out of the top 10 in my opinion.

Dez is far from average. He's just not in that upper crust of receivers like Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham and Julio Jones right now, sad to say. He CAN be single covered and having to constantly throw him dangerous jump balls is a limitation on his game. We need to recognize he isn't as fast as he used to be and stop having them run down the field. He didn't catch ANYTHING on the outside. I just wonder why the coaching staff can't see this.

Against elite DBs he's struggled and that's no secret. Only blind homers will deny it. We need a polished route runner as the #1 WR in this offense.

Dez is getting paid 17 mil, Dak is getting paid a few hundred k. Dez far more overrated than Dak (who most don't consider anywhere near elite yet.)
