6 offensive pro bowlers...and yet we still can't win a playoff game. This organization/coaching staff ought to be ashamed. To end the season the way it did...then come out so flat...and get thumped by an under manned GB team. Disgusting:thumbdown:
This was how we were in the late 60's..

It's how we got the nickname Next Years Champions with NFL Films.

We would play like crazy during the season and get beat in the playoffs.

Same thing going on here.

What was different was there was no salary cap and we kept players longer.

That allowed us to stockpile players and keep continuity.

Can't do that now...

But we have done better recently.

And with Romo gone and some of his salary available to improve the defense..

It's a critical offseason ahead.

In the past..whenever we improved one year..We would regress dramatically the next.

The best thing they've done is move it to the week prior to the SB. No one is in the mood for football after the SB especially the Pro Bowl. At least having the Pro Bowl the week before the SB fills the dead week with a game as kind of a prelim/appetizer for the main event.
All that does is force SB participants to miss the game forcing replacement and tarnishing the game as you suggested earlier.

All those Cowboys players are going to look at each other and wonder what the hell are they doing there. A bit of embarrassment will creep into the pride their feeling.

Maybe 1 or 2 of the 20 people that will watch are boys fans and will be happy.

Dez didn't even lead the Cowboys in receiving, Beasley did. Beasley had more catches and yards than Dez and only 3 fewer TD's. Dez was hardly the next man up, he was well down the list of leading receivers in the NFC but he has the most star power which is why he was selected to replace Julio. The Pro Bowl game is dying a slow death and fans want big names/playmakers on the field that's where the votes go.
And whats wrong with wanting the most exciting players on the field? The playmakers.

They have nothing to be embarrassed about. They had a great season nobody saw coming. Nothing wrong with getting props for it.

There's still players who miss the game because although players love the honor of being voted into the Pro Bowl they don't want to play in the game. Dan Marino got voted into the Pro Bowl a number of times but played in very few of the games. Players bow out of the game with injuries or come up with a mystery injury so the game has a number of replacements. The point I made about "tarnishing" has to do with being a replacement for a player who was voted in. If Julio Jones wasn't playing in the SB, Dez would have never gotten the call to be in the Pro Bowl. He's a replacement and that tarnishes the honor of playing in the game in my opinion.

Nothing is wrong with it but being voted into the Pro Bowl should be for the players who had the best seasons. It shouldn't be based on star power and reputation but it is for the most part. Most of the best seasons are by star players but sometimes it isn't. Dez was our 3rd leading receiver this season and a NUMBER of receivers had better years than him including Cole Beasley but Julio Jones isn't going play in the Pro Bowl and no one is going to want to pay to see Beasley replacing him. They want to see Dez because he's one of the top playmakers in the league and fans pay to see him.

That AND since the players do the voting, i would think they vote for the player who is harder to defend and more of a threat to score with the ball in his hands.

Players have biases, doubt Josh Norman and OBJ get each others votes. It's all about trying to field the most exciting players to keep the Pro Bowl game going. It appears the game is on it's way out, the effort isn't there and players don't want to get hurt. The game has become a farce.

Id also like to add the helps elevate players to stardom. We marginalize it, but "Pro Bowl Receiver" means a whole lot for the players reputation and marketability . These "reputation" nods keep a guy like a Brandon Cooks or a Michael Thomas from getting that reputation boost.

Nothing against Bryant, but he didnt finish with Pro Bowl production. He had a solid year, but in a tight race, you that lost production due to injury should you

Selections to the Pro Bowl are still based on voting rather than what players had the best seasons. Anytime there's voting there's going to be a bias and a lot of players will get voted in based on reputation.

That's often correct. It's just that the players and coaches are the ones to blame, not the fans.

I'm glad they're back to the NFC vs AFC version. Didn't like it the last few years. I know the pro bowl isn't much but it's easier to watch when all your players are on the same team.
