And stop referencing other teams and their lack of WRs. The Pats saw what kind of an opportunity getting Moss would be. We don't have Brady or the best coach in the league. We don't have the best defense in the league (and won't). We lost our RB. This offense needs Dez as much as it needs anyone not named Romo.

We are better with him, hell any top WR and believe it or not Dez is not the only WR in the NFL there are many who have produced like Jordy Nelson who are not asking for some outlandish contract. The ideal that Dez is the Dallas Cowboys is a joke, he is a member, he is a very good player but his 5 catch avg is not the be all for this team. Dallas should give him a fair offer to put him in the top 5 WR outside of that if he refuses then he can go pound sand. Dallas will survive and still has very good talent and a top OL to utilize the players we do have

But the tag is leverage in negotiations whether it's used or not.
I will agree that the tag can be a factor for some even if not used but for the solid majority of NFLers, the tag is not a factor
It controls costs for teams. Without it, you have baseball.
The salary cap controls costs for teams. Even if they got rid of the franchise tag, the cap isn't going anywhere so it still isn't baseball.

Would Dez prefer to make 15 million in Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland, Tampa or Nashville. Or 12 million in Dallas... Cake and eat it situation..

We ain't winning anything without our top-3 WR and BY FAR FAR FAR best skill position player. Do you honestly think we can with Terrance Williams as our #1 and a turnstile at RB? Seriously?

Contracts work like this: When it's time for the best top player to be paid, they get the biggest deal. They may not be the best, but that's how it works, because, you know, inflation and all that. Dez should be the highest paid.

I'm a Cowboy fan. No player, no matter how great, is ranked higher then the team for me. IMO, the contract is there and it's not a bad offer. It's the second highest paid contract at his position. I don't see where that's all that unfair but like many, I don't always see things in the same light others do.

I'm with you and that goes double for people like me who have friends and family who have put their lives on the line (and in some cases gave their lives) for less than a tenth of what this guy makes in a week. I'm sorry but in the great scheme of things it just is NOT that important. Don't play, Bryant, see if I care.

In your view, yes he is a very talented player so are some others on this team he has 5 catches a game avg out of 60 snaps, he is good but he is not worth CJ money hell CJ is not worth that money and all it does it puts Det in a position that they cant keep other top talented players and improve areas of weakness and because of that Det is not going to SB, it is great for CJ but outside of that Det is JAG team and will continue to be as long as they are willing to pay out stupid contracts. You guys are so up into Dez jock it is rediculas. He is 1 of 53 he is not the Dallas Cowboys. Figure that out and get back to me.

Money can be moved around in endless directions. The salary cap is a myth that is used as an excuse.

To an extent but it is real and it can have an impact on being able to retain players

Detroit did that. They moved money to keep CJ and avoid ramifications of the tag. Eventually, it caught up with them. I don't think the cap is a myth. I think it's a hard cap and while I do agree that there is always a way to pay players, the question becomes, is it smart? I don't think it's ever smart to over pay a player. Be fair with a player and let the market dictate salaries. That's the most fair way to do it IMO.

I was being a bit hyperbolic, but the cap is anything but a hard cap.

it would be a massive fail to let Dez walk in a year after saving money for him by letting Murray walk.

Here's the problem the next 24 hours.

Denver is watching Dallas, and Dallas is watching Denver. Thomas is watching Dez, and Dez is watching Thomas.

Whoever signs first loses on the player side. Whoever signs last loses on the owner side.

And, no doubt the teams want the franchise tag deal, while the players want the long-term deal.

We've got a four-way game of chicken going on here.

There is nothing mythical about the NFL's hard cap.

Sure there is. You can restructure things however you want. It's a built-in system to give owners a way to control themselves, while still allowing them to adjust when absolutely necessary.

Denver signed everybody under the sun last year. Washington has been doing it for years.

As I statedd in the thread the other day he has a 2 million dollar Bugatti in layaway right now. Hell of a WR l, but not too bright money wise.

That is BEYOND idiocy! I'm not surprised, though.
