I am going to respectfully disagree. His hands may not be an issue, but something is. He has not been the same since 2014 and it is not just the QB. It started with Romo in the very first game of 2015 against the Giant
I'll grant you his "hands" may not be an issue, but something is. I'll take Dez at his word and accept that he has been playing through injuries and has been mentally impacted like the mentioned after the 2015 and 2017 seasons.
This started in 2015, and while most people blame that year on Cassel and Moore, it started in week 1 with Romo as QB and even continued when Romo came back against the Dolphins and Panthers. In that short amount of time playing with Romo, Dez dropped a wide open pass on 3rd down which would have set up 1st and goal in week 1 against the Giants, had a miscommunication in the red zone on a blitz where Romo got on him for not cutting in front of the defender on an interception, and then dropped a TD pass early in the game in the front corner of the end zone against Norman. To boot, the Panther game was the game he was arguing with Norman instead of trying to prevent a pick 6.
In 2016, Dez didn't have many "drops" but he also stopped coming down with balls that we have grown accustomed he make plays on...winning physical battles with DBs. He started looking for flags are arguing with officials. The Cleveland game was sort of a turning point for him in the season. He was frustrated with officials, he loafed on a 3rd down play instead of blocking for Dak who was scrambling for the first down, and got frustrated in the 4th quarter of a blow out game because Dak threw the ball to Witten instead of Dez on 3rd and long. After the incomplete pass, Dez walked to the end zone, threw up his hands in frustration and looked towards the sky. After this game, Dez's attitude changed for the remainder of the year and got back on track. Even in his horrible game against the Giants where he slipped causing an interception and fumbled late in the game, his head was still in the game.
This past year, he continued to drop balls and not come down with catches that aren't classified as drops, but balls that you would expect Dez to catch most of the time. Those difficult catches are part of the reason why he got the big contract he got.
I'm not unrealistic. I understand drops are going to occur, but drops are mistakes and I don't excuse mistakes. I will acknowledge them as mistakes just like everything else that occurs but hurts the team's chances of winning like interceptions, penalties, fumbles, etc. TWill had 0 drops in the 2016 regular season but had a drop in the playoff game against GB. That drop was the main mistake in the only 3 and out drive we had that day on our way to a 21-3 deficit. TWills hands are also not an issue, but that drop hurt and I want as few of them as possible from every receiver. I want as few mistakes as possible from all players. I think we can all agree on that.
