There will be PLENTY of teams ready to pay Dez top 3 money. This passing game is built around the fact Dez gets doubled. This team LIKES that Dez gets doubled. This team purposely at times does not try to get Dez open. You get rid of Dez....you will have to get someone that does all the things Dez for the team.....and there are only 2 or 3 guys in the league that do that. Also, do not minimize the fact that Dez is a "team" guy. He knows this was a contract year for him....and he could have really upset the chemistry of this team by going "T.O" on the team....by demanding the ball. Dez allowed this coaching staff to convince him that getting EVERYONE involved is what is the best for the team and ultimately what is best for him. So that cannot now come to him and say "your numbers were down in the post season...so here is a contract that matches your production". So are you saying that he should be the 4th highest paid WR on this team?

It does concern me that he seems to disappear for entire halves. If we're going to talk about him in the same light as guys like Megatron (who sees the same double/triple teams), he's going to have to figure out how to beat the coverages.

Having said that, I also recognize that nobody on this board knows what's going on in Romo's head. Maybe Dez has beaten the coverages, and Romo just isn't looking his way.

I'm a huge fan of Bryant's, and while I'm not on the crowd that wants to pay him $100+ million, I want us to do whatever we have to to keep him around. I just have a real problem with him not being involved in more plays, the guy is our best play-maker by a mile, and special things happen when he has the ball.

Listen bottom line is, if we don't pay him, somebody will gladly step up and do it. I'm not talking about a Raiders or Cleveland team either, there are contenders, that would love for us to slip up and let him go.

So either way it's a win-win for Dez. So all this talk is irrelevant.

Run the drag more with Dez, he'll catch a lot more balls.

I have been to my fair share of Cowboys games over the last few seasons and I have never seen a team make such a concerted effort to not let one guy beat them more than the Packers did with Dez. He had a safety shaded to his side on literally every play besides the 4th and 2, and he *ahem* made them pay...

Pay the man.

People that actually watched the games know Dez played great, and easily deserves "top WR money". It's not always about the number, Dez can be held catchless and still dominate a game.

Uh. I would say that's not good cap management to give a guy top pay at his position to be a decoy.

Basing "production" on only one stat (completions) is a really bad way to grade receivers. Taking into account other factors will give a truer picture of their production. For example, a ratio of completions to targets is better that just completions alone. Taking into account the resources opposing defenses dedicate to guard a receiver... if a receiver is double guarded an entire game, they will more likely get fewer targets. Maybe their impact in the game is more about their blocking down field... I would count that as production. Dez has a bigger impact on the game than any other of the Cowboys receivers so he does merit top WR pay. For Cowlshaw to say otherwise is just shortsighted because he is not considering the impact on opposing defenses to account for Dez.

Dez is a beast. Other receivers benefit from the attention he receives.

Our coaching staff lets Dez get taken out of the game. Sometimes you just have to force the ball to him, like Romo did on the 4th and 2, and he'll come down with it (provided the refs don't screw us over and call a legit catch incomplete).

Yeah, and if you force it to him, and Romo throws a pick, everyone is talking about how much of a choker he is.

The NFL is not Madden video games. You can't just chuck it up every play. You have to play the percentages.

Furthermore, on the 4th and 2 play, Dez had single coverage. He rarely saw that type coverage throughout the game. So I can see going to Dez on that play.

Now, I think the Cowboys can do more to get Dez open or run more crossing routes for him. But I don't advise forcing balls to Dez.

As for the original point of this thread, Dez's value isn't necessarily measure in how many balls he caught, but how he dictates the opponent's defense. When teams start game planning against you, that's when you discover your true value. And I guarantee you, teams, in their preparation to play Dallas, aren't saying, "How do we stop Beasley/T Williams/Witten?"

Dez is no "decoy". If he forces the opposing defense to dedicate too many resources to guard him and thereby causing others to be open he is serving a strategic purpose. If he were a decoy he would not get targeted whether he was open or not... Dez does get targeted a lot.
