You guys can trash Dez all you want but if we had 52 other guys with his heart and fire we would not lose!

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Cowboys ask Dez to restructure his contract this coming offseason.
He has demonstrated that he is still a very good receiver but his production/abilities aren't at the elite level.
Some of it isn't his fault because the way our offense is structured, the #1 WR isn't the main focus. And there have been many instances where Dez hasn't taken advantage of his opportunities when the ball has been thrown to him.
Knowing Dez, he will not be a happy camper should that happen and cause a big ruckus.
But he won't have much to argue that a restructure isn't justified.
The Cowboys will have some big contracts to deal with; Martin, Irving, Lawrence, etc. so they will be looking for ways to deal with them.
Why do people put martin into this conversation on big contracts for 2018? Dallas picked up his option, so his cap hit is already accounted for next yr. It amazes me how people dont understand this, Dallas picked up his option for 2018 and his cap hit is 2019. Dallas will be extending him and his first yr for this new deal will begin in 2019. And Irving is a restricted FA he's not going anywhere.

With 53 of Dez it would look a soccer game for 5 year olds where they just run around in a group chasing the ball with no clue what they're doing.

Yeah, he's not going to take a paycut.

Martin and Irving won't be until 2019. Dak in 2020.

It's looking like we're going to be about 40 mill under the cap this offseason with 0 restructures anyway. 2019 is 72 million under the cap as of right now, (before the 2018 and 2019 increases), and that's with Crawford and Witten on the roster that'd be a combined 12 mill saved.

We're fine.

If you can't see why a liability Witten is at this point you aren't really watching the games or being honest with yourself. He is a progress stopper at this point in his career. We will have to agree to disagree.
Wittens touches should have been reduced about 4 years ago. I would love to see a more explosive player get some of his touches. Future HOFer does not mean current HOF production.

Problem is, that player needs to be on the roster, and he isn't at the moment. I'd also like to have a TE that can actually block too instead of a glorified WR. Typically, those guys need to develop a bit because a TE blocking at this level at their weight and, not only having speed/savviness to beat NFL defenses but hands where they can actually be reliable with a safety or linebacker draping them, is rare.

Even if we do find that player, I'd keep Jason as a backup if he'd take a paycut. Witten at 37 is probably still going to be better than a lot of NFL backup TE's. And I want him to get a ring.

The fact he's already paid, and still wants to be the best should say enough

I pray he goes NE.

Dude would tear **** up, and it would be fun to see. Him and Brady would win a SB. ( not that they need him to do that)

If we are destined to lose Dez, I hope it's next season and he gets a ring, so this fan base and organization would feel like complete ****
He would last about 1 game before they got tired of his nonsense.

That's possible. Another possible outcome would be that Dez has to take a pay cut to get a job because he's not worth what he thinks he is worth and he gets to his new destination and still has trouble getting separation.

If I were Dez...I would never do this. I would WELCOME a paycut...and choose a team that will actually get him the ball and do what he does best. We can go on and on about what he is NOT...but he seemingly NEVER has the ball! Why would he take a paycut..to remain on a team....to NEVER get the ball? Garrett is content for this offense to perform EXACTLY like it is performing. It is the EASIEST way for him to win some games...without having to do a whole lot of "scheming". It will never win 3 games in the postseason against top defenses and the best coaches. But hey...Jerry is comfortable...his family is comfortable...and they keep a whole lot of Cowboys fans HOPEFUL that the 6th Lombardi is on the horizon. Like I always say...understand what game is being played...and then decide how to proceed with your fandom.

That would be an excellent argument if it were remotely true. We force him the ball like a foi gras duck.

Dez would be much more productive in a system that wants to throw the ball and made an effort to get him open. Dallas has zero speed on offense...and that shrinks the field and makes it very congested. A system that takes advantage of what Dez is great at....would do wonders for his productivity

I don't think you'll see it in 2018, the Cowboys don't have much leverage and for the 8.5 million in cap savings there won't be many equal talent options available. 2019 though is a possibility with an extension wrapped in.

Right. Nothing is Dez' fault.

It's sounds great in theory until he rounds off his route and the other team gets a pick 6!

Actually, numbers show those are his best routes.

His go routes success has dropped, because Dak can’t throw deep well. The numbers for TWill dropping in go routes also show it ain’t just Dez.

I'm sure that's true. But if you run the slants with Dez it will get pick sixed. Dez can only run a go route and a fade because it is hard even for him to **** that up.

Can we create a "Dez Is Underperforming and Makes Too Much Money" Zone?

Probably should. His production warrants it.

Just looking at the tape, you have to realize that Dez was never a great wide receiver. He has great ball catching skills but, he
could never run great routes and did not have the acceleration to create separation. He has certainly regressed over the last two
years and is not worth the money being handed him. Witten was a great TE and does do about any dirty job asked of him to help
the team. He blocks on runs and does get open to catch the 9 year seam passes up the middle. I still have a feeling that both
players are on their last year with the team. If Dez does great on another team like Ware, great for him. We need a young, quick as
lightening WR to pair with Dak for the next 5 years. We need WR's who play to Dak's strengths not Romo's any longer.

I wouldn't even say he's "great" at catching the ball as a blanket statement. He struggles big time with anything that's below his waist.

Better yet why don't we get the clowns of the coaching staff to take a pay cut. Garrett is way over paid for a coach that doesn't even know how to manage time, and Linehan has no clue how to use some of his players on offense.
