I love how 5Star has vanished from this thread once he got called out for being a hypocrite regarding jumping to conclusions.

Come back and man up to it.

The Cowboys keep things in house. Even if Romo knows Dez was smoking blunts in the mall parking lot when the other guys were practicing, he's not going to let us in on it. Jerry just did the same thing. (If you don't know what I'm talking about go to 10 minutes in on this press conference. http://www.dallascowboys.com/multim...es.cfm?id=A3FAE0A6-BCB4-0DAA-23AF26B07CA9BE8F )

Yeah, but on this I am more than willing to play along and just give the benefit of the doubt. Its better than thinking Dez is an unaccountable numbskull.

The problem is that people assume the worst instead of expecting the best. I guess overall people have a very pessimistic view of life.

I understand people being wary when it comes to Bryant because of things like lying to the NCAA, being sued for overdue bills, etc., but too many cross the line from wary to accusatory.

I've said more than once, not just on this issue, that we should be careful about drawing conclusions based on incomplete or lacking evidence, but it appears to be an inevitability.

There will always be blind men trying to tell us what an elephant looks like.

Jerry and the Cowboys would love for all of us to just expect nothing but the best, continue to buy Dez jerseys and keep our nose out of it. Some of us are not buying it and see a problem child. That is the elephant in the room that some people would rather not look at.

But why are you seeing a problem child? Did Bryant cause problems for Dallas last year? Are there real indications he is causing problems or will cause problems for Dallas this year?

No one is sitting here thinking the young man doesn't have some immaturity issues that could potentially affect his career. It's a possibility. But we're also not reading more into what's happened than what is actually there.

The accusations being tossed around concerning Bryant are a blatant overreaction to the facts.

The guy who is the handler for Dez, David Wells, said Dez was in a very dark place. Deion Sanders said he needs help, and badly, but you can't tell a grown man what to do. He hangs out with thugs according to numerous people who have seen him at the mall and tweeted about it, as recent as Saturday, the day after he was supposed to meet Jerry Jones but did not show up. He then failed to show up at a Romo oganized practice when he had just had dinner with Romo a week earlier and was supposed to be there. There are the bad loans as well. I've probably left something out. This is just the last couple of months.

If that's not a problem child someone is only seeing what they want to see.

Other than stirring up the idiocy around here, what problem has Bryant caused?

It's fine to say there are people concerned about him, but name me one legitimate problem this so-called problem child has caused since becoming a Dallas Cowboy.

He got banned from a mall? That really hurts.

He didn't pay some bills and got sued? Man, he's killing us!

Is it justified to be concerned about him based on those things and the things you listed? Yes.

Is it justified to go off on him because of perceived problems? Absolutely not.

The cliff-jumpers can spin it any way they want, but until he truly causes a problem, he is not a problem child that deserves to be scolded every time any morsel of negative news comes out about him.

How about we support him until he does something worthy of being considered a problem. And wait until it is legitimized before we assume the worst.

I'd be perfectly happy with a long career full of mall altercations, civil suits over jewelry, and talking to Deion Sanders if he keeps playing the way he did last year.

I do understand what you're saying, but I hope he grows past those things for his sake.

I'm sure he will. He's still a bit of a kid. I remember being in my early 20s and how wild I was... It's a stark contrast to the person I became as I entered my 30s. I can only imagine how off the chain I would have been in my early 20s with all of that dough and the popularity that comes with being a sick talent. I'm confident the mentors in the organization will help him grow and improve his approach off the field.

Exactly. People group any issue, small or big, into one lump "off field issues". As if not paying jewelry bills is the same as a shooting in a strip club. He's young, people. He makes mistakes. None of us were perfect at his age. I wouldn't condemn any kid in his 20's doing what he did. You discuss it with him, you "coach" him on the right way to handle things, but you don't condemn him. And what makes his friends "thugs"? Because they wear their pants low? I have friends that if just based on appearance would not seem like the best crowd. But they are better than a lot of guys I know that are in the polo shirt/dockers wearing crowd.

Well, some never grow up, but we don't know if that'll be the case with Dez. All we can do is hope for the best.

Like you said, he's in a conducive environment, and his personal growth issues haven't been the type that should cause much concern.

I don't find that true for myself.

I liked this place a lot more in 2004 when I first joined, (came over from Austin360) and the discussions were way more logical, intelligent, enjoyable, ... way less confrontational ... and I'm sure that the overall IQ of the board was much higher.

Regular IQ and football IQ.

Excellent post, agree 100%

Just out of morbid curiosity i wanted to see if you had “jumped to conclusions” when months back Dez was reported as violating the mall dress code. Sure enough, you did: http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3884698&postcount=26

As we found out later, Bryant was innocent of that.

Sweet! Now you know what I mean about jumping to conclusions?

I did, and look what happened. But, I don't do that at every turn of events like some posters do.

And, I see that you are still hurt for me asking what was wrong with you a few days back.

I was out of town...but I'm back, and I did reply. See, I do the same thing sometimes, but not as often as some (cough, cough) posters do.

Have a nice day, and study for those finals!

Me, too. But insofar as my Cowboys fandom is concerned, I don't expect to love the public images of all of our players. As long as they stay clean and don't hurt anybody in there personal lives, they're free to make their own mistakes.
