Dez Specific or Primary Read Specific?

Glimmer, I promise I didn't read your reply when I posted mine but I do see we saw things the same.

I see a lot of posts saying that with Dez gone, Dak will have the choice of throwing to the open WR. But, there's a but.

And here it is:

Dez was the best WR on the Cowboys.

The defenses last year doubled Beasley, not Dez. If he was our best wr last year, he would have seen more doubles in coverage. Teams didn't fear his route running or his speed, so by that, he wasn't the best. Only thing he was best at in terms of our wr's was the high jump ball. Other than that, he wasn't best at anything else.

Because he was making a deal about getting the ball. He wanted to be targeted and I think the coaches had directed Dak to give it to him (he was supposedly our #1 and best talent) . Whatever the case the chemistry was terrible. All one had to do was watch the games and see the ball was being forced to him. With him gone and no specific #1 then I think Dak gets to go through his reads / get the ball to the open guy.

Make sense?
Yep. I think this will be a reset button of a kind. He should be looking for the primary WR on plays but he finds the open WR pretty good when he isn’t having to look for just Dez. After the catch Dez was amazing and that will be missed. But not having to target him and having him throw a fit to get the targets will help out the whole Offense.

Agreed and Dak likes to take care of the ball and isn’t into throwing that 50/50 ball. He likes WR to be open. They used bracket coverage on Beez last year. Don’t expect it to change until our Offense makes them change it. They have to burn a few teams early in the season for defenses to abandon that scheme. Dak has to take some deeper shots down field. Stretch these defenses.

But don't all plays have a 1st or primary read? What if Hurns is the primary on most plays like Dez was? Even if you put different receivers in the X position, the X position may continue to be the primary read.

Sean Payton runs a lot of the same formations. But he puts players at different positions. And for some reason it confuses Ds. The only reason I can think of for the confusion is that the D doesn't know if the position is the primary, or if the player is the primary.

For instance if you swap your X positon player (best WR) to the Y position and the Y position player into the X positon, on a play, is the better receiver (now in the Y position) the target? or Is the X positon (position usually manned by the best WR) the target?

So what are you saying about primary and Dez? Let me ask this ... are you trying to infer that Dak is unable to progress through his reads? I don't believe Dak will be forcing the ball into Hurns in the way he did to Dez. I think he'll read him as covered.

Sean Payton has Drew Brees who is one of the top 3 QB's in the league and I'm sure he progresses through his reads quicker. Payton's got a different offense even though it looks similar. N.O. seems to run more stretch plays and deeper routes (which I'm sure is related to Brees' talent level).

I am saying, with Dez gone, Dak has less pressure on him to force the ball to him (whom on many of our plays he was the #1 option). This makes Dak play a little more loose IMO. When Dez was out hurt our offense actually looks more rounded and more efficient. I think we'll see a version of that this year. Being as most of our receiving corps is new I'd guess it may be near mid-season before they start looking more efficient.

I think it was a mental thing for dak....knowing if he didn't throw it to dez enough he was going to have to hear it....
Don’t you think this makes Dak seem a bit weak? If you have a QB who would rather hurt the entire team than deal one guy should he really inspire anyone?

I'm asking if the coaches are strict and want the QB to go through his progressions as the play is designed? Or if the QB is allowed to determine what the progression should be based on what the D is showing?

I don't think it makes him look weak at all....Dez has been one of the leagues biggest stars for years and is a very vocal player...those two components alone could give a young player a tendency to give him extra attention...additionally, Dez's reputation for big plays in the past probably had Dak thinking to look to him more...unfortunately, as we all know, Dez just hasnt had the same burst over the last couple of years since his foot injury.

Was Dez being targeted so often because:

He was Dez Bryant?
or
Because he was the primary for a lot of plays?
It was to keep the whining, crying, and temper tantrums to a minimum.........Dez is a 100% ME player NOT a team player....which is why teams are avoiding him like he has Anthrax.

Was Dak throwing (or wanting to throw) to the primary target on the play?
If Dak was targeting the primary, it wouldn't have mattered if it was Dez or somebody else. If it would have been John Doe playing the X position, then John Doe would have been highly targeted.

Are the coaches strict about going through progressions according to play design?

Was Dak allowed to determine the primary based on what the defense was showing?

Dak could help a receiver get a little more separation by not making the primary his first look. He could give his first look to another receiver, pump fake, and then look to the primary read.

Dez is gone, get over it. And the ONLY thing Dez was the best at was jump balls. Everything else he was probably the worst receiver on the team at.

Garrett was placating dez by ensuring he was thrown to often. No doubt dak had to go along with it. The coddling failed. Stephen saw enough and removed the tumor with surgical precision.
I am thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to following you.
You are endlessly fascinating and erudite. I reflexively look forward to seeing a post from you - no matter the subject, but when you go scientific - my lips spread into a Joker smile.

Nothing for me to get over. I'm an Eagles fan. It doesn't matter to me if Dez is there or not.

Congrats on the win last year. Amazing season. Love Wentz. Are you upset you didnt take a RB higher? Did you like the TE pick?

As of now, I'm not upset about not taking a RB higher. That could change at some point during the season though. Duce Staley does a pretty good job of managing the RBs. Ajayi might want more carries this being a contract year for him. If he gets disruptive it could get sticky. Blount turned out to be a good teammate. That surprised me.

We'll see about Goedert. We have Richard Rodgers and the coaching staff seems to like Billy Brown. Hopefully those 2 can help make up for losing Celek and Burton. And that in turn gives Goedert a year to develop and gain some game time experience so he's ready to be TE2 next year.

It seemed in games when the O had trouble finding their footing, the D kept them in games. And in games when the D couldn't get a stop, the O had a good game. Timing is everything.

Except off every single metric even in his worst years. But yeah besides that.

Teams doubled Beasley because it was the easiest option to take away, and Daks biggest tendency.

When
Dez left the Cowboys, he was not the best.
That is why even sentimental Jerry let him walk.
Your loyalty to Dezpicable is endearing, but not based on production.

Big part of the problem was with coaching.
2017 Dez is not the same player as 2014 Dez yet JG and crew ran the offense like we still had 2014 Dez. This is typical JG. Just like with Chaz Green, he played him as though he was Tyron Smith leaving him on an island without help. Dak was the unfortunate victim of JG's stupidity getting ragged dolled in ATL. Just like Romo was most of his career.
