Did anybody hear Jimma on the Ticket?

Is there anyone in NFL circles whose opinion has validity?

I'm as scared as anyone about the downside in a Norv hire, and the possible return of "bad Jerry." But some people are just bound and determined to believe the worst and simply discredit any other perspective that doesn't fit the agenda.

Oh yeah, I forgot, that's what a message board is for...

Jimmy hyping his friends up is nothing new. Like I said, he did the same thing with Wanny in Miami. It doesnt mean anything besides a guy wanting his friends to get a high paying job.

sure it is...the man obviously knows nothing about the game

of course, had he said he couldnt understand what Jones or anyone else was thinking about hiring Norv, that would have obviously been something concrete

David

You take Jimmy's opinion on Norv as valid, but when Jerry Rice said Woodson walked all over him that one you dismiss.

Jerry knows he doesn't want to coach so he's not been approached

Thinks norv is the way to go, said he and Bellichek talked about how great a teacher Norv is. Thinks that's Dallas number one need is to tutor Romo.

Some other chest thumping about how great he is

But wait who did he teach in Washington and Oakland? He is no longer a good Teacher according to some of you guys...

Al Davis gets a lot of grief from some about being a meddling owner like it's a negative connotation that isn't deserved. Maybe it's just young'uns with no clue about or appreciation of the history of the NFL and have only seen/heard the rambling of the decrepit old Davis.

Davis was a brilliant football mind but something of a maverick .He also had a keen business sense even when others didn't see it. He was Jerry Jones before Jerry Jones.

I used to love watching Al Davis.

I saw him last night on the NFL Network show "America's Game" and he was interviewed in 1995 about the '75 AFC Championship Game between the Steelers and the Raiders in freezing Three Rivers Stadium.

Al and the Raiders believe to this day that the Steelers intentionally froze the sides of the field outside the hash marks to remove their deep threat of Cliff Branch over Mel Blount. Al said the one thing Mel Blount hated and feared was the speed of Cliff Branch. As Al was saying that they showed Branch beating Blount for a long TD. Al was standing on the field before the AFC Championship Game and Pete Rozelle came over to him and said, "Well Al, it's the same for both teams." Al told Pete, "Come on Pete, if you believe that you don't know anything..." (or something to that effect).

It was classic Al Davis! I can understand why Jerry loves the guy. I just don't want our team to resemble the modern day Raiders with no vision or direction, which is where I'm afraid Jerry will take us if he doesn't have a strong football mind with him at VR.

Like Jimmy did any teaching?

Somebody has to teach but it can just as well be the coordinators.

Thats why Norv is perfectly suited to being an OC.. he doesnt have to worry about anything else going on with the team.

Another pro-Norv thought...

Jimmy's man was Steve Walsh...guess who changed his mind?

Norvs man was Heath Shuler. Nuff said.

Heath had empty space between the ears. Check what Norv was able to do with Brad Johnson.

Davis was a character and helped shape the NFL as we know it.

I don't share your concerns about Jones becoming a present day Davis because the mistake all made isn't being repeated. Davis had no one to tell him it was time to step aside and no one capable of running the Raiders in his stead. Jones has Stephen.

Did he do it telepathically?

Since Walsh was traded to NO the year before Norv came on board.

If Jerry wants to so call manipulate someone he has the power to do it be in Turner or Rivera or any other HC he names. My hope is Jerry has learned from past mistakes and who ever is named HC with get the authority that should come with the job.

I don't think that JJ could manipulate Parcells...I think that Parcells might have intimidated JJ a little.

But, I also believe that JJ and Parcells came to the conclusion that both would have a say in what went on, and if a tie existed, JJ the owner would have the final say.

I'm not sure there are any other coaches out there that JJ will have this kind of relationship, especially with his buddy Norv! I have a feeling that if JJ wants it, he will get it. Even more so now that he worked with Parcells...JJ might have a more over inflated value of himself, thinking he's smarter then he really is...

If it's true that JJ forced T.O. on Parcells, of most people, what do you think he can do to some ordinary HC like Norv? JJ will squash poor Norv like a bug if he wants too!

Now, someone like a Reeves, a Shottenhimer, maybe a Holmgren, someone like that, I would be less worried, but someone like Norv?

Help...............!!!

Damn the Internet. ;)

Eh.. maybe you just got your Steve's mixed up.

The second half of '91 when Steve Buerlein lead us to 5 straight wins and a playoff win after Troy had started 6-5 and got tweaked, I suppose there could've been some sentiment that Buerlein should've started the following year.

I doubt Jimmy thought that at all.. but if he had, at least *then* Norv woulda been there to shoot it down cause he'd been on the team during the '91 season.

didn't Jimmy try to recruit Aikman at Miami? Jimmy was dead-set on drafting Troy #1 overall

I have no link, nor confirming any kind of insider info. to confirm this, just my own 2 cents worth, for what little that's worth, and I'm not necessarily endorsing him myself either, but...due to Jones familiarity level, etc. with Turner, that is who I feel Jones will bring in as the new HC no matter who else is interviewed. I just hope that whomever we end up with as our new DC, that he knows his stuff and is someone who will motivate our defense!
