My internet went out just as he came on, and then he was gone when it came back. I'm sure he said some good stuff about Norv.

Jerry knows he doesn't want to coach so he's not been approached

Thinks norv is the way to go, said he and Bellichek talked about how great a teacher Norv is. Thinks that's Dallas number one need is to tutor Romo.

Some other chest thumping about how great he is

If the Cowboys want a teacher, fine, hire Norv for Romo as OC. If the Cowboys want a HC that will keep the Cowboys in line and not be manipulated by JJ, then don't hire Norv...hire Singletary, for example, someone that will b-slap T.O. and any other player that gets out of line...including JJ his bad self!!

This is a GREAT summary of my issue with this whole process...

I keep hearing that Romo needs a teacher, a "mentor"...

What the hell is Garrett there for then?...

Isn't that the role of an OC?...

Or a QB's coach?...

If we need to hire Turner to mentor Garrett so HE can mentor Romo, what the hell have we done?...

Since when is a HC hired to mentor a QB?...

A HC RUNS THE FRIGGIN TEAM!!!!...

He's not a $3mm babysitter...

I heard him on Jim Rome's show just a little while ago and he was AWESOME!!
Rome asked him nothing about Norv or the current Dallas job, they just re-hashed old times.

Unfortunately, without saying it, Jimmy confirmed in my mind why Norv is the antithesis of Jimmy. Jimmy was so driven and such a demanding taskmaster that he willed his teams in Dallas to succeed.

He admitted it was very tough on him personally to be the SOB who had to keep demanding more and more of his coaches and players and that wore on him until the point that he just wanted to get out.

Funny thing was he said Troy still does not accept his thinking that it was time for him to leave Dallas when he did. He said he and Troy stayed up one night until the wee hours of the morning talking about it at his place in the Keys and that although Troy accepted his decision, he still holds it against him.

Jimmy did say that although Jerry never asked him about coming back, he did inquire, through a friend, a few years ago, if there was any spark left for coaching, and Jimmy said there was none. He said was having way too much fun to go back to that grind.

It was a great interview and as Rome said Jimmy once again exuded the "IT" factor that made him the coach he was.

Yea, Im surprised he diddnt talk up DAVE WANNSTEDT while he was at it. What Jimmy says is meaningless.

and what exactly do you know about Singletary's illustrious coaching career that suggests he'd b-slap anyone or that he would command respect? Or do you just want to hire a former LB with intense eyes on game day? Do you actually think that will result in more games in the win column?

sure it is...the man obviously knows nothing about the game

of course, had he said he couldnt understand what Jones or anyone else was thinking about hiring Norv, that would have obviously been something concrete

I just used him as an example. But, I have read the "history" of Norv...great guy, good QB coach, but not a good HC...

Get it now?

If Jerry wants to so call manipulate someone he has the power to do it be in Turner or Rivera or any other HC he names. My hope is Jerry has learned from past mistakes and who ever is named HC with get the authority that should come with the job.

I can only hope for this as well...

But then I think of Al Davis...

I don't think Jerry is Al Davis. Jerry will always be involved with the Cowboys but as long as he is willing to listen to the advice of the people around him like the HC and Ireland then his team has a chance to get back to the top.

I think Holmgren did pretty well babysitting Favre.

Is there anyone in NFL circles whose opinion has validity?

I'm as scared as anyone about the downside in a Norv hire, and the possible return of "bad Jerry." But some people are just bound and determined to believe the worst and simply discredit any other perspective that doesn't fit the agenda.

Oh yeah, I forgot, that's what a message board is for...

Are you seriously comparing Holmgren to Norv Turner??? [/sarcasm off]

...just wanted to be the first to discredit this very valid thought.

Al Davis gets a lot of grief from some about being a meddling owner like it's a negative connotation that isn't deserved. Maybe it's just young'uns with no clue about or appreciation of the history of the NFL and have only seen/heard the rambling of the decrepit old Davis.

Davis was a brilliant football mind but something of a maverick .He also had a keen business sense even when others didn't see it. He was Jerry Jones before Jerry Jones.
