I listen in online to 103.3 and only caught the tail end of the interview...Irvin and his cohost Kevin said after the interview that there was some disdain in Newman's voice about having Pacman on the team...Just wondering if anyone had a recap of the interview

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a little tension between those two.

From the start, Newman's quotes have "read" the grouchiest on the possibility of getting Pacman.

Not sure if he simply doesn't like the character concerns, worried this will eat into his potential big payday, doesn't think he'll fit in with the fraternity of corners, or what.

In the end, though, I don't think it's a big deal. Pacman either comes in and endears himself to his teammates by showing a strong work ethic, commitment to righting his life and desire to win. Or he slacks off, acts like a tool bag, and is let go.

In a way its good though because Newman is such a competitor and I expect him to have his best season next year.

He is more talented than Pacman and I believe he is going to improve tremendously this offseason.

I predict Newman will take that next step and be in the Champ Bailey mold next season.

It's a contract year. It wouldn't surprise me.

With all due respect, can Newman really get any better, though?

He's already as good as you can get when it comes to shutting guys down. I think his only real weakness is his hands and/or ball-hawking ability, and I don't see how those two traits suddenly "come" to a player.

EDIT: Never thought of superpunk's theory. I stand corrected.

Sure there will be tension because TNew knows PacMan could be Jerry's insurance policy this time next year against paying TNew $20million +.

All Pacman does is come in and endears himself to his teammates by showing a strong work ethic, commitment to righting his life, and winning. Very soon, he will become another cog in the wheel and no one will have anything bad to say or infer about him. Get him on the field be it practice or game, and he will win over his teammates who may be hesitant with the signing by doing what he does best......play the game. I HOPE, I HOPE, I HOPE..............

That and hes entering the prime of his career.

Champ Bailey was never as good as Newman was early on his career.

You have to be a little concerned with a guy that suddenly "turns it on" in a contract year and wonder why in the hell he didn't play that well to begin with. Also, once he gets paid, does he slip back into being an above average player, or worse declining (ala Roy Williams)?

I love TNew and would be stoked when/if it's announced that he has been re-signed. But, if he all of a sudden becomes all-world (at 30 years old) and demands a long term high priced deal, you have to look at that very closely and determine what exactly he is worth. Is he worth jeopardizing signing Ware? Or hampering the ability to improve the team in other areas (WR, S, RB)?

I would think that is the key here.

Wow... So now based on one comment on one interview on one radio show, Newman is the type who is only playing for money and will slip back to be an average player once he gets his money?

theebs, you called it.

I do not believe Newman is more 'talented' than pacman.

He may be a better CB but he has to start playing the ball and punishing defenses for throwing at him.

In terms of overall talent pacman is definitely the quicker more shifty return guy and a huge threat in that regard.

Newman needs to shut up and worry about his position and play.

He also needs to take a leadership role in the lockerroom. One that everyone assumes he has. He needs to set an example for all the other players with Adam Jones. Take him in as a teammate and try and mentor him into being a better guy.

This would go a long way in making Jones transistion easier and to avoid the rift Newman's current comments might incite.

But to be sure, Newman sees this move as a gamble which is direrctly pointed at him. Being 31 next year and wanting the huge contract, Adam Jones, were he to straighten up, takes the leverage away from Newman with this team.

TNew, pipe down and stop giving interviews. Worryu about your career year for the dough and not some kid who at this point is no real threat.

Terrence has never been an average player. He's far more talented than that.

but it wouldn't surprise me if next year is his best year ever. I don't view regression as a problem for him, he might peak, but that doesn't really count for regression. He's an incredibly hard worker, and a great player.

Sometimes dollah-time is that extra kick in the pants you need to take it to the next level.

We have never gave Newman a fare shot as a return guy because he is to valuable to leave out there.

Plus Newman just has every physical ability you would want over Pacman.

Pacman might be a little quicker but Newman has him in any other aspect.

:hammer: I am for re-signing Newman, but If he's not careful, he will price himself out of Dallas.

Interesting... There's not one recap of the interview. Just a comment about what the reporter thought Newman's tone was. And yet Newman's catching heat. "Just needs to shut up and play" Hmmm.

Newman's interview in an article on DC.com a few weeks ago was pretty supportive of Pacman. Hard to think it would change so drastically.

Newman said that he would keep an open mind and as a leader of the defense he would try to help Jones fit in with the rest of the DBs and help him learn the scheme.
