Newman needs to shut up and worry about his position and play.

He also needs to take a leadership role in the lockerroom. One that everyone assumes he has. He needs to set an example for all the other players with Adam Jones. Take him in as a teammate and try and mentor him into being a better guy.

This would go a long way in making Jones transistion easier and to avoid the rift Newman's current comments might incite.

But to be sure, Newman sees this move as a gamble which is direrctly pointed at him. Being 31 next year and wanting the huge contract, Adam Jones, were he to straighten up, takes the leverage away from Newman with this team.

TNew, pipe down and stop giving interviews. Worryu about your career year for the dough and not some kid who at this point is no real threat.

Agree, Newman needs to shut the hell up and stop worrying if Pac is going to mess up his big payday.

Newman still has at least 3-4 yrs at probowl level, so I dont know what the hell he is pissed about with Pac. If Newman doesnt get paid here, I am sure on the open market he will get Samuel money. Thus, he is going to get paid a small fortune no matter what, so what the hell is his problem???

Newman said that he would keep an open mind and as a leader of the defense he would try to help Jones fit in with the rest of the DBs and help him learn the scheme.
Did he say it with attitude? I mean, cuz you know easy it is to read into something somebody says.

Wow... So now based on one comment on one interview on one radio show, Newman is the type who is only playing for money and will slip back to be an average player once he gets his money?

theebs, you called it.

Yeah, I'd say it's just the opposite. Newman clearly wants his money -- don't we all? -- but he's never shown to be the type to pack it in once he does.

Also, remember, he's a character and that doesn't always portray itself well in radio interviews. I've found him to sound somewhat awkward on the radio as he doesn't have a lot of inflexion in his voice and you can't see the facial expressions accompanying what are sometimes sarcastic comments.

Amazing how some people will throw an Pro Bowl player under the bus who has spilled his blood and guts on the field for the Cowboys to come to the defense some scumbag who's never played a down for the Cowboys.

I wish I could say I'm surprised. Its the society we live in I guess. People would cheer and defend OJ if he could still rush for 2000 yards for their team.

I agree.

Hes been our most consistent player and going into last season I think a lot of people would agree we thought he was the best player on the team.

He hasnt even finished his rookie contract so its not like he cant improve his game.

Hes still young in football years.

Absolutely not. And, if you don't think Newman isn't playing for a major payday this year after hearing his comments about other salaries in the league for CB then you're more gullible than a toddler at a Barney themed LSD party.

Newman was a reference in context. How'd Shaun Alexander fare after getting paid? Roy Williams? Edgerrin James? Jevon Kearse?

My point was that you have to question ANY player that all of a sudden "turns it up" to get paid. Newman is no exception. Try and keep up.

Terrence has never been an average player. He's far more talented than that.

but it wouldn't surprise me if next year is his best year ever. I don't view regression as a problem for him, he might peak, but that doesn't really count for regression. He's an incredibly hard worker, and a great player.

Sometimes dollah-time is that extra kick in the pants you need to take it to the next level.

I believe the term I used was above average, but spin it any way you need to.

heard the whole thing

newman said he is the leader of the defense then changed it to his is the leader of the dbs.

Said he would walk up to pacman and welcome him into the fold be sure he got the defense and would do everything he could to help pacman.

Said that some guys prolly won't reach out like that and that there may be guys pissed off about him being there.

He said he has never met pacman and is giving him the benefit of the doubt as a person and he wants it to work out.

any one bad mouthing t.new in this thread is out of line, one of the most stand up honest guys on the team. I have always been impressed with his willingness to say what is on his mind.

He actually did have a melancholy tone(or lack of enthusiasm) and mentioned that there were players that did not want him. So I could at least see where some could look at it as he was just toting the company line with what he said.

I thought his appearance on nflnetwork a month or so back that he was a lot more upbeat about picking him up.

Newman stated that he has never met Pacman before and will give him the benefit of the doubt. Newman did stress that there are people on the team that were opposed to the trade as there are people on the team that accepted the trade. Newman also stated that he likes the team they had last year and now and didn't want to change a much of it when he was asked about the upcoming draft.

He must be putting it out there that he's going to "reach out to Pacman" in hopes that it will increase his payday.

Sneaky son of a gun. :)

How'd Tom Brady fare after getting paid? Peyton Manning? T.O.?

Should we let Ware go when his contract is up? Why sign anyone to a new contract if they might quit with a new deal?

And when did Newman "turn it up" to get paid? Has that happened yet?

Maybe you need to keep up.

is sig-worthy.

I was actually kidding... Just a play on the OP saying that Irvin and Kevin had disdain in his voice. I believe Newman will do what he can to help Pacman on the field as well as integrating him into the team. And that's all you can ask of any of the players.

per Newy Scruggs

Columnist Says Cowboys Players Won’t Watch Pacman Jones
Filed under: Uncategorized — newyscruggs @ 5:58 am

Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News penned a very nice column on the Cowboys players take on newly acquired corner Adam “Pacman” Jones.

They ain’t taking care of him and he if cuts up, it’s on him.

That’s how they are in that locker room. I know it, I cover it. Just like Terrell Owens and Tank Johnson came to Valley Ranch with baggage, the guys in the room never allowed that their past issues to take away from their focus on the field.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo taking a bunch of teammates to Mexico with Jessica Simpson during the bye week of the playoffs is another story.

I've never heard Newman sound enthused on the radio. I think he just has a very laidback, casual tone.

We ALL hopes he turns it up! But at that point you have to wonder "Why in the hell haven't you been playing like this the whole time?!" "Would it have made a difference in the Playoffs?", etc. People can spin my comments into a "hate Newman" spin all they want. I was very clear in my first post. If it's not comprehensive enough for some then I suggest continued education.

I've already stated in he first post, I'll be stoked when/if Newman is re-signed.
