Dak was never not making the team, but he's straight up #2 now.

Butler, Showers, Jackson, Jenkins yes.

Frazier, not sure. I don't think he's a substantial upgrade over Wilcox, yet. But he would be cheaper. We'll see.

Sure, but just because you hit the jackpot on Dak doesn't mean you have to get rid of Showers. A good backup QB has a lot of value and Showers looks like he could do that as early as 2017.

We aren't that far removed from all the posts saying Romo would never play again, I would like to see Showers on the PS but I can also see him on the 53 man roster this year. He showed the skills tonight, you can't really judge him when he is throwing to 3rd string WRs and dodging a pass rush that got by our 3rd string OL.

The question I think is - would you be comfortable with Showers backing up Dak a year or two from now?

I think that answer has to be a resounding yes.

So did anyone earn a roster spot tonight?

IMO Dak is the #2 QB now, no question.

Did Brice Butler? Some here think he did, I still think the WR spots come down to the last day.

Did Jameill Showers? I thought he played well considering he was with the 2nd and 3rd string, the best scenario for the team is for him to be on the Practice Squad another year but I don’t think he makes it because there is so little QB talent in the league. He has great mobility and a strong arm, he isn’t Dak but he looks like a guy with upside.

Did Darius Jackson? I think he did, he showed enough that other teams would definitely claim him on waivers. We also have the option to keep DMC and/or Dunbar on the PUP to start the season.

Did Shanell Jenkins? He is active and powerful, he could be a beast after a year in the weight room. He may also be too good to expose to waivers but not good enough to beat out Maliek Collins.

I thought Kavon Frazier and Jerimiah McKinnon looked good in the secondary, though McKinnon is likely a PS guy.

I don't think there's any question that Butler is our 4th receiver. He's the only WR besides Dez, Williams, and Beasley that I feel comfortable running normal routes at the moment. Lucky quit on the 2nd questionable pass that Dak delivered after he was jammed. He needs to learn how to fight through that or opposing corners are just going to engulf him at the line of scrimmage. I still think Lucky is our clear number 5 receiver though. He's clearly our special teams ace as a returner and you can still run some sub-package stuff for him to get him involved in the offense. I don't think anyone has stood out anywhere close to what is needed to be considered for a 6th roster spot at that position. I think we'll carry an extra RB instead. I do like Mayle and Jones as practice squad candidates however

There's still 2 preseason games left, but if we see more of the same from Jenkins, I don't think you can expose him and expect to land him on the practice squad. I see more upside in him than a guy like Russell, so if I had to make a decision between the two (you might not even need to), I'd go with Jenkins.

Exactly what I was thinking. Our scrubs appear to be worse than our opponents scrubs, and that is what Showers is dealing with. DAK really stepped it up at the right time at Showers' expense. He can't get forst team reps because DAK is killing it! Great unusual problem for us to have, right?

Guess we'll have to cut our depth on DL if you guys want a 3rd qb and 6th receiver.
You thinking McClain/J. Crawford/Jenkins? I would cut Jack Crawford if we have no one to rotate w/Thornton for Showers but not a 6th WR.
