Did anyone else notice Bradlee Anae?

Put Anae on Pittsburgh, Balty, or NE and this kid has 12 sacks rather easily IMO. Figure out how to use him Quinn. He’s a madman out there.

In a season?

12 sacks would have ranked him in the Top 7 in the NFL last year with LaDarius Smith and Myles Garrett. And 8th in 2019 with Aaron Donald and Preston Smith.

LOL, let's slow our roll a bit here on the kid.

I am an Anae fan and I want him to succeed as much as any player on this team. However, I think, from what I have seen so far, he has some limitations. Yes, he looks great rushing the passer. Late in the game with the Cowboys leading and the other team needs to throw, Anae could be the guy to come in and make plays on the QB to snuff out any comeback. But, I don't see him doing a great job on running plays. Also, every now and then he has this funny habit of leaving his feet as he is about to make a move on the OT. It's similar to WRs who jump to catch passes even when the pass is not high. It's a bad habit he needs to correct because NFL tackles will wipe him out if he does that.

It is going to be a numbers game. They have Lawrence, Gregory, Basham, Armstrong, ahead of him right now. And they have Golston. They have Carter, Urban and Watkins listed as DEs too, even though I think they will play DT most of the time.

Has Golston done much in camp? Is he hurt? I've seen and read about most of the draft picks but not much on him.

I mean I guess this is possible since Nolan was a tub of goo but it's also possible the guy just took a year to figure out what he was doing out there. That wouldn't be the first time nor will it be the last time that a young player, especially one that was a bit raw like Anae, took time to figure out how to play in this league. And again, let's note it was against backups in that Cards game. Who knows what he looks like when he faces a real starting caliber OT.

He also showed a lack of discipline launching himself into the head area of the QB.

I've given the organization too much credit in the past only to be shown they were full of bunk. If a guy is doing well in camp & preseason games, he should get more opportunities. Everyone starts off proving themselves against lesser competition and works their way up. It will all work itself out if they let the players performance dictate decisions.

OK but then let's note that Anae didn't actually show himself in preseason last year and there wasn't much buzz about him from the beat writers during the season. No reports of how Anae was dominating in practices and needed more PT, etc.

It's usually the simplest answer. Anae just wasn't good enough or developed enough last year to warrant more PT. And I can't reach the opposite conclusion based on a couple of plays in a preseason game against backups.

Did he really hit him with the helmet though? On my feed, it appeared he definitely lowered the head but then extended the arms & hit the QB's shoulder pads knocking him down. There appeared to be space between their helmets. Anyone else have a definitive look at it?

He definitely hit the QB in the head. With his hands I believe. Just needed to shove him in the chest.

Carter is not a DT.

Yeah, I did.

He is one of those guys that don’t test real well in the pre-draft lead up but he just has a knack for creating pressure on the QB. He’s just good at it.

He might not be a guy who you want as your head-liner pass rushing DE, but he could be a guy that gives you a lot of quality play (and pressure) playing behind your primary pass rusher.

IMO, he has a good bit of versatility too. I think Quinn might find a few things for him to do. He can help.
Good write up. This begs the question “why did we see zero of him last year”?

The ability he has displayed this preseason probably didn’t just arrive, and lots of people were touting him last year, yet he saw zero playing time. It’s like they stashed him, but that’s unlikely because we needed lots of help last year on defense.

Then we stir in the fact that Anae fell a lot farther in the draft than many expected. It’s like the team (and all 31 other teams) know something the casual fan does not.

I am just spit balling here, but maybe he is prone to bone headed plays like the penalty he drew against the Cardinals. Or maybe Rod was just an idiot. We may never know, but I would suggest that the circumstances indicate that there is something we the fans don’t know.

just another reason to not trust this organization's personnel decisions. he was the talk of camp last year & couldn't get on the field even though we desperately needed pass rushers?

hopefully that is changing .... but I need to see a track record of good decisions before I believe in them.

Nolan and Tomsula (and even overseer McCarthy to an extent) were the reasons for those personnel decisions, which management quickly addressed and took action on those questionable personnel
decisions (especially per Gregory) ....

DEs
1 - DLaw
2 - Gregory
3- Basham
4- Armstrong
5- Anae
6 - Gholston ?

DTs
7 - Gallimore
8 - Osa
9- Watkins
10 Bohanna
Hill ? ..

i think Carter is destined for practice squad again, and i think it will be slim pickings on the wrong side with Justin Hamilton again,
while the biggest decision will have to be made with Gholston and Hill, imo
I just don't think we'll be keeping 11 DL guys on the 53 roster.

- Anae will have to keep momentum going into remaining exhibition games. i keep McCarthy's saying that the team knows he can rush the passer.
That's a vastly needed trait in both rotation relief, packages and injury depth. But i still also wonder if team is gonna placed heavier emphasis on special teams
which both Armstrong and Basham has experienced role in.

- True with Anae as a run defender, but teams have rush specialists needed ala Greg Townsend, Darry Tapp, even Robert Quinn was one dimensional
but if you needed him to solely go off at the QB in obvious 3rd down..in a 4-3 with his hand in the dirt, he was a nightmare for most OTs with his great get-off.

Golston injured his hamstring during the conditioning test before camp and has been on PUP ever since.

Hill is basically a lock IMO to make the 53 unless he's just not ready due to coming off that injury.

Public service announcement - There is no h in Chauncey Golston's last name.

It's not like Jason Whitten.

I don’t know how anyone could say that with any degree of confidence.

I'd hope he's wrong but with this team who knows. They have unproven and garbage at DT. There's not a single good player in the bunch.
