I realize Rome isn't for everybody, but I like him. I like his show.

"The Incident," as it has become known, happened many years ago and Rome apologized a long time ago and made up with Everrett.

He is the best sports interviewer on radio or tv and it's not even close. That's the irony of it all. It was a stupid, sophomoric interview almost 20 years ago that made him famous, and now he's the best at framing questions, doing his research, and getting guys to open up.

How would you know if you don't listen to his show?

Of course it's a matter of opinion. This is a message board. Opinions reign.

I have seen him TV I think the guy is an arrogant smuck. I don't spend time watching him but I have seen him and I'm not impressed. If you like him fine as you said "I realize Rome isn't for everybody" but then say he is the best? not even close? Not everyone would agree with that.

He reminds me of a jr. Skip Bayless

Sure, he's arrogant and he would be the first to tell you.

His radio interviews are much better than the stuff he does on TV.

Oh ... in my opinion. Sorry.

Yeah, I'd say the only redeeming aspect of him and his show, IMHO of course, are his interviews...It seems that him and his staff do a pretty good job with their homework and create a conducive environment for guests to share in interviews...As we all know, some of the worst interviews can be those where the interviewee has little to say or give insight on...Jim Romulski does seem to do better than a great number out there, in that respect.

My biggest complaints with him has to do with that nonsensical subculture he's created with the 'jungle', 'smack' and 'throwing a vine' etc. garbage...Plus, hearing those clowns come on air and recite some rehearsed diatribe trying to sound eloquent and humorous is nauseating....I can't stomach his show for the most part...He should do less to indulge in that sort of publicity and stick to his interviewing style...2 cents

We all like different thing, I'm not downing you because you like him. I don't, I know many others who don't and thus in my eyes of course I would not consider him the best out there

Fair enough. The "subculture" as you so aptly put it, certainly isn't for everyone. There are times when I laugh, and times when I get tired of it.

That is the reason I don't watch him. I thought the interview was the most unprofessional thing I had seen.

Well we all know ESPN would never have anybody like that on their programming.

Burning...must be jock itch.

On the segment he just gave the same opinion others have that Wade can't just get tough all of a sudden, that players won't respect him. I caught the beginning of the show since I usually watch or dvr NFL Live.

Which everything seen from OTAs and minicamp disputes that opinion. All the players seem to like the changes that have been made.

I didn't see anything about it on the Rome is Burning page or on his radio show page.

It was only a minute long.

He said Wade was pulling guys out for false starts and he said that this was High School BS.

Blah, blah blah. Rome is a tool to the 1,000,000th degree.

I make it home too late to catch his show nowadays, but I grew up on Jim Rome and I love the guy to death. I see a lot of myself in him mainly.

I kinda doubt it, I suspect there's nothing in his jock... I mean, when Everett tossed that table, little Jimmy promptly employed the fetal position approach to self-defense... :D

That "subculture" has lead Rome to very nice contract with PRN racking up around $5mil per. Fact is, his 5 day a week, 3 hour radio show draws more listeners per week than ESPN radio draws 24/7 in a month. Rome is a product of doing what sells... If it didn't sell he'd change is act, but the numbers don't lie.

Take Rush Limbaugh for example for every fan he has, he's probably got 2 others that hate him. But he's still piling on with 16-20 million listeners a week and a $38mil per salary to back that up.

Also sports fans... ESPN IS NOT A SPORTS NETWORK!!! THEY ARE AN ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL THAT HAPPENS TO BE CENTERED AROUND SPORTS!!! Every single story they tell and the angle they choose on how tell it is run through a litmus test first asking "what is the most entertaining way we can tell this story?" If it ain't entertainment they ain't talking about it.

+2.

I was stuck in traffic last week and flipped over to the Ticket here in San Antonio. I really don't like the guy at all, but was listening for a few minutes to pass the time.

He hung up on some caller and then spent a solid 10 minutes whining about the fact the guy asked about the weather instead of moving past it and getting to the sports. At that point I went from disliking him slightly to never listening to him again. The guy is a self-centered blow hard that wasn't much of anybody until Jim Everett put him on his rear. Only Steve A* Smith annoys me more than Rome.

And yet he's still more well known than average Jim Everett. That's about the highlight of what Jim Everett ever did was knock Rome to the floor.

I just think it's hilarious because Jim didn't think Rome would say it to his face, and would only do it on the radio behind his back, and then got all pissy about it when Rome did it to his face.

And it's not like it had to keep going. He could have laughed about it, realised Rome was only doing it because Jim didn't believe he would, and it would have been done. Instead he went about threatening Rome that he'd better not do it again or they'd need to go to commercial break. LOL. What did he think Rome was going to do? Say, "Oh, sure, Jimmy. Sorry bro. Don't hurt me. I was only teasing you."

It's hilarious.

I'd hate to see what Jimmy Boy would have done if he had to take any serious stuff as a QB. I couldn't even fathom what he'd do to a media person if they treated him the way they treat Romo. Jimmy Boy probably would have had to kill someone out of his rage.

Hilarious.

Jim was a better qb than we've had for many years here, and better than a lot of teams have ever had...

Over his career, he managed to perform well enough to be among league leaders in several passing categories. His 203 touchdown passes rank 25th all-time, and his 34,837 passing yards are good enough for 14th all-time. He also ranks 15th all-time in completions and 16th all-time in pass attempts. On a year to year basis, he was among the top ten league leaders in the following categories: pass attempts (seven times), completions (eight times), pass yards (seven times), and passing touchdowns (six, including leading the league twice).

Jim Rome likes to push buttons...And if it really bothered someone that much He should of stoped and been more profesional about the whole situation. He's a egomaniac with little to no class.
