well i never did know that jim rhome got put on the carpet by jim everett, i was surprised, but again rhome egged everett on, so he asked for it;

Well... honestly, even though I can't stand the guy, he was smart in doing it because it made his career. Where would he be without this incident? Probably looking for a job....

And yet he's still more well known than average Jim Everett. That's about the highlight of what Jim Everett ever did was knock Rome to the floor.

I just think it's hilarious because Jim didn't think Rome would say it to his face, and would only do it on the radio behind his back, and then got all pissy about it when Rome did it to his face.

Yet, Rome just talked and was able to back it up like a man. I dont respect someone who talks tough about someone and then is manhandled.

Weakness and tough talk isnt admirable.

That is the reason I don't watch him. I thought the interview was the most unprofessional thing I had seen.

 Wasnt that interview like 15 years ago or something?

I still think 'the fight' was staged. Toward the end when Everett pushes him, it looks like he kind of holds on to his arm so doesnt fall hard.

I listen to him for about 80% entertainment rather than sports. He cracks me up, his takes on Softball guy, golf guy, etc are hilarious. But, he does rag on just about anyone he knows will never come on his show. T.O for instance

Ouch...that's harsh. I like to listen to him from time to time and I've never even one time taken any kind of dope. Never even been around when anyone was using it.

That hurt man. If I was sitting in front of you I'd knock you out of your chair right now for that.

Meanie head.

So you are naturally that way? :)

+2.

I was stuck in traffic last week and flipped over to the Ticket here in San Antonio. I really don't like the guy at all, but was listening for a few minutes to pass the time.

He hung up on some caller and then spent a solid 10 minutes whining about the fact the guy asked about the weather instead of moving past it and getting to the sports. At that point I went from disliking him slightly to never listening to him again.

See, thats why he's not for everyone...i caught that and thought it was hilarious. Thats his whole mantra, have a take dont suck. Or when he introduces them, like, Heres Bill in Houston, and the guys says, hey Jim, this is Bill in Houston, he immediately hangs up on them.

It was only a minute long.

He said Wade was pulling guys out for false starts and he said that this was High School BS.

Blah, blah blah. Rome is a tool to the 1,000,000th degree.

DC was anything said about wade making a player run a lap and wade holllering at jason garrett, which garrett didnt like that, so wade went to jerry jones?

I realize Rome isn't for everybody, but I like him. I like his show.

"The Incident," as it has become known, happened many years ago and Rome apologized a long time ago and made up with Everrett.

He is the best sports interviewer on radio or tv and it's not even close. That's the irony of it all. It was a stupid, sophomoric interview almost 20 years ago that made him famous, and now he's the best at framing questions, doing his research, and getting guys to open up.
Co-sign. This guy is brash, but when he interviews athletes they are usually 1st class interviews and he makes no bones about holding athletes to high standards. Most of them "get the jungle" and understand that when they screw up they will get called on the carpet. I enjoy laughing and Rome's show can make me laugh.

Rome is a arrogant turd but I like to listen to him. On TV, he's not that great. Probably due to time issues. He can't hound an issue for an hour when he's on TV and I find that some of the things he says that are the funniest occur when he's mockingly rehashing an topic.

Been listening to the jungle since '98.Romy Van Smack
Hated it at the beginning, but the show just grew on me.
The Smack-off is stuff of legend...Jeff in Richmond,Gansta Kelton from the ATL,Jim in Fall River,Greg in Vegas and his amputee fascination...great callers.
Went to his Tour stop in Austin in '03,lots of fun.

As for the last name, please produce the source of the "Romulski"...not you Hos,but the hater who posted it.

I once won a "Huge Call of the Day" for cracking on Jeff in Richmond. I still have what I said saved somewhere. I got a call from a friend who had moved to Seattle to work for Intel. He heard the call and laughed because he recognized my voice.

Rome is about having fun. Those with sticks in the rear end should not listen to him. Nor should anyone who thinks it is a dead serious sports show. It isn't, nor does it pretend to be.

The reason why i don't care for him has nothing to do with the fact that i'm uptight. While some of his interviews are good, the rest of his radio show drives me absolutely nuts.

I just don't like someone who harps on a simple thing for half an hour. Not too long ago, he was talking about the fact that Isiah Thomas was mistakenly introduced as Isiah Thompson at FIU. While i agree the person should have been more prepared to introduce him, i don't think it deserved a 30 minutes diatribe by Rome about how it was a big mistake by the athletic director (or who ever introduced him). He said the same thing over and over and over again for about half an hour. I guess he has to fill his long time slot somehow.

Plus he tries too hard to be cool and hip. If you have to try that hard, you're just not. Stick with the interviews.

You cracked on the 2002 Smack-off champ, friend of Bob Costas, owner of a 10k acre state, driver of a late model european sled with corinthian leather interior,Armani suit wearing Jeff in Richmond and got away with it?

Priceless.

For the record,I have never got on the air...never got pass the phone slap.
Most memorable call for me?
Jim in Fall River's 2002 Smack Off call with the donkey in the background.
I still laugh even thinking about it.

I like some of Rome's stuff and there is certainly some of his style I could do without.

He certainly gets some names to come on and visit with him. What sports fan wouldn't like that.

As far as his schtick goes, not so much. I agree with the poster who says if you have to try that hard, you probably aren't. As a rule I don't care for folks who invent their own language and subculture and then insist that others play along or they're not in the club. You know well-founded arrogance is one thing. But arrogance because you are self-proclaimed... Thankfully, its not always there so I listen around it sometimes.

The other thing about Rome that bothers me, and I don't have this for fact, its more of a feeling. But at times he talks real tough about athletes who aren't on the show but most everyone he has on, he seems to schmooze. It comes off to me as two-faced. Maybe that's not factual. Maybe he'd really say his stuff to their face. But it doesn't come across that way to me.

I heard him ripping Favre hard the other day. Now granted, most of us ARE irriated by how Favre has been a spotlight hog extreme. But I really find myself wondering if Rome would rip Favre in exactly that same manner were he on the show. I doubt it. He might ask some tough questions, I would hope so, but I really don't think he'd do that same kind of hack job. Maybe I'm wrong.

Rome's lame poser act and loudmouth is weak as his spine. He jock straps athletes and his lingo is for wannabe hipsters.

As Jim showed he cannot backup his mouth.

Well then you really wouldnt have liked his bit on last years Heisman ceremony with the whole Billy Simms debacle. He went on for an hour how the introducer began "and the Nineteen Ninety..errr 2008 Heisman Trophy winner.." Its not 2000 anymore when we all did that for a while, its 2008!! Good stuff. ha
