I believe that Schotty picked his new coordinator and he picked the assistants that he wanted. I'd like to see what the board thinks.

The coaching staff hires were ultimately Schottenheimer's decisions, with input from the Cowboys' front office (Jerry and Stephen). Schottenheimer said he would "cast a wide net" for candidates and led the interview process before making recommendations that the organization approved.

The Cowboys hired Christian Parker as defensive coordinator after Schottenheimer interviewed multiple candidates. Parker was Schottenheimer's choice following an extensive search. After Parker was hired, Schottenheimer and Parker worked together to assemble the defensive coaching staff. Parker had significant input into selecting assistants who fit his defensive system, while Schottenheimer had final authority as head coach.

I think it is always a collaborative effort. We just always blame Jerry for the failures because we like to hope that this year is different.

When we switched from Mike Nolan (a buddy of Mike McCarthy's) to Dan Quinn in 2021, we brought in who Quinn wanted except where we mainly kept McCarthy guys. Jim Tomsula (a Nolan guy) had been the DL coach, Scott McCurley (a McCarthy guy) was LB coach, Harris (a McCarthy guy) was DBs coach along with Maurice Linquist, who had no ties to McCarthy or the Joneses. The only Jones guys were senior defensive assistant (whatever that means) George Edwards and assistant DL coach Leon Lett.

When we brought in Quinn in 2021, we kept McCarthy guys McCurley and Harris and hired Quinn guys Aden Durde and Joe Whitt. The only possible Jones influences were retaining Edwards as defensive assistant and Leon Lett as assistant line coach ... again, not key positions.

There's more examples that I can use, but I think this idea that Jones forces assistants onto his head coaches is mainly conjecture and not supported by the evidence. For all we know last year, No-Schott didn't really have an available coordinator in mind so even if the Joneses were to ones to bring in Eberflus, he had no issues with it, and if he'd had someone he was really dead set on, they would have gone that way. I think it was the same with McCarthy and Kellen Moore as OC.

To me, it's a little like Dallas bringing in Terrell Owens under Parcells. Parcells wouldn't have pursued the player but he also didn't strongly object to him being pursued. Coaches have said over and over again that those kinds of things are a collaborative effort. Now, if you go back directly to the days after Jimmy, I think there are plenty of examples of Jerry going off the rails and just doing what he wanted. That was wildcat Jerry, though.

Carlos Polk (former Cowboys player and former asst STs coach) is the only one that stands out that has any kind of a connection to Jerry. But I think that's just coincidence.

So to answer your question ... I think Christian Parker mainly picked his assistants. He's the coach who knew what he wanted for the system he wants to run, Just like the year before I think No-Schott mainly picked the offensive assistants. If we blame the Joneses alone for the defensive staff last year, then I think we also have to credit them for the offensive staff the team brought in. Either the head coach is a puppet or he's not.

That's what I thought. Thanks for sharing.

Everything is a committee decision with Jerry having final say.

The coaches, the draft, cap decisions.....the members of the committee all have the opportunity to present their opinion and Jerry's decision is typically based on the committee members that Jerry trusts the most at that particular time.

So Schottenheimer was heard. Whether or not he agreed with the final decisions cannot be determined. He will be instructed to say that everyone was on the same page.

I'm sure the committee members include Stephen Jones, the HC, any current coordinators, Will McClay and possibly the directors of college and pro scouting.

There is no unified direction or plan. Nobody is in charge of the big picture. That would be way too much power for any human not named Jerry Jones.

This is what I think too.The jones boys had to do the actual hiring and contracts, and I believe they sat in on some of the DC interviews.
But as for the assistants I think that was all Shotty and Parker.
This was a major change to what Jones boys have done in the past.

Jerry has reminded everyone plenty of times that he has the final say from jocks to socks. He most certainly did pick or approve every coach.
Yea ........ this silly thread wants us to forget about 30 years of "my way or the highway" narcissism, pretending it has changed.

Jerry also hired Parcells and McCarthy ....... he has hired good coaches before ....... he just never lets them gain to much power because he does not want a repeat of Jimmy.

This time he hired a puppet head coach and then a young coach from a rival and certain fans are convinced its an all new Jerry.

Pitiful

Jerry hired Jimmy Johnson, and I’m starting with that because there’s a lot of confusion about how those Super Bowls were won, with all the credit going to Jimmy. If it weren’t for Jerry bringing him in, none of that would’ve happened. Honestly, I don’t think Jimmy would have had the same NFL success if he’d joined a different team in a different situation. That’s a fact. Jerry approves every hire, but he also values input from his coaching staff, letting them share their preferences on candidates to interview, and together they make collaborative decisions on who to bring aboard.

I find it a bit ironic that only the positive stuff gets acknowledged, not just by you but by the fan base as a whole, and you’re going to say it wasn’t Jerry. Jerry owns the team, and he’s involved in every decision, good, bad, or indifferent. He’s the one approving everything, going all the way back to Jimmy Johnson. He hired Jimmy, there never would have been those three Super Bowls without Jerry knowing Jimmy, convincing him to join the Dallas Cowboys. They were friends and teammates in college, and it never would have happened without Jerry. There’s just no getting around that.

I get it, people focus on the negative. You didn’t like Schottenheimer, but because he hired him, you also didn’t like who was brought onto his offensive staff. Yet, you don’t think he ultimately approved Matt Eberflus? Maybe it wasn’t his first choice, but I’m certain he told Jerry, “I can work with him, I’m okay with it.” Whether he was just trying to be a good soldier or not, he absolutely approved it. If he really didn’t want him, he could’ve made it clear, screamed from the rooftops even that he wouldn’t take the job if Matt was hired.

That’s what a coach should do if they feel that strongly.

We know Mike Nolan was hired by Mike McCarthy, but you won’t give Jerry credit because Jerry wanted Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn—better choices than the ones he let coaches pick. Mike Nolan was just as bad as Matt Eberflus. Remember, Mike got his way with Nolan, but Jerry replaced him with Dan Quinn, which was Jerry’s hire. Jerry also wanted to keep Kellen Moore, but in the end, McCarthy wanted to call plays himself, so Kellen was let go. Moore then went on to win a Super Bowl ring with the hated Eagles and now runs his own show. So, who was wrong? That would be McCarthy, he was allowed to do what he wanted, and it failed in the end. Sure, there were three good years in the middle, but that had more to do with Dan Quinn.

I’m going to stay consistent, Jerry approved it,

so in the end he’s the one who signs off on all of these decisions. If you want to give Brian Schottenheimer credit, you’ve got to give it to Jerry first, same with the blame. It doesn’t matter, Jerry hires and fires everyone, probably down to the towel boy. Steven, Jerry, and the rest of the family make all the staff decisions from top to bottom. They do listen to their coaching staff too much, even during the draft. We all know most of those bad picks, were players Jerry had never heard of, he just approved them when they were brought to him.

Good, bad, or indifferent, the coaching staffs are the ones who brought in the bad players and assistants. Jerry approved them, but he didn’t force anything. JJ may have oversold Matt to Brian, but that doesn’t mean it was 100% Jerry’s idea, if Brian didn’t want Matt and spoke up, Jerry probably would have gone along with it.
