Did our veteran O line forget how to pass block?

Mahomes threw for over 400 yards today vs the Chargers and was barely pressured. His O line almost completely stymied the Chargers pass rush throughout the game.

On the other hand Dak was running for his life on almost every pass play vs the Chargers pass rush.

I can understand the O line struggling to run block since we have a different run scheme, but the pass blocking should be second nature to our veteran O line.

I still think our O line has the talent to pass block and run block at a top 5 level, but they need to start proving it. I’m not a fan of the new run blocking schemes, though. To often our run plays are too simple and basic. We consistently run inside the tackles with little imagination.

These same players, as a unit, have been very good pass blockers and run blockers. With a little more practice together, a little time to get over some injuries, and some tweaks to the running scheme, this O line should be a top 5 O line!!!

Thoughts?
S jones thinks they will get better with the "5" playing together as they go.

Say What you want about Philbin but as a OL Coach he's probably one of the best in the game outside of Callhan. he invented that goofy non Holding shoulder pads grip i used to yell about everytime we played the packers. I think next year we will see a new OL Coach this guy is not hacking it.
Yeah,
I think there might be something to Solari. The whole offensive line not knowing how to suddenly pass block OR run block screams of coaching.
Paul Alexander anyone?

They aren’t run blocking well either. Not sure if it’s this new scheme the new O-Lone coach is running or what. JG let go of the best O-Line coach we had. Let him go to bengals. We had the bengals old coach they fired. Then we fired him and brought Colombo in with Hudson watching and helping. Them MM let him go and brought his guy in. Now he is gone and have another new one. Was hoping he would be better. Maybe they just needed some time to gel. Let’s hope.

I believe they're having problems in all phases man have you not seen there was no holes for the run game either/// there's some kind of issue and I'm sure they're working it out they're not the worst line in football but they're definitely been the bigger problem on offense than anything else everyone wants to point to McCarthy or other players on the offense but really that line it starts and ends in the trenches and we are not winning up there against the better teams
Play design matters a lot!

The Niners O line is not great, but they usually run the ball really well because Shanahan puts the blockers in positions where it is easier for them to make their blocks.

MCCarthy’s running plays are to basic and simple!

The new running blocking scheme is part of the problem in my opinion.

Wake up, it’s not just the players! The run play design is to easy to defend. These same players, the last 2 years, were above average run blockers.

Their run blocking is worse than their pass blocking. They are moving no one on most plays.

Overall, they are giving enough time for the ball to come out.
Again, play design matters. Our play design on running plays is to simplistic right now.

O line continuity is important, but they haven't all played together, healthy. At least Dak was able to extend a few plays. I was surprised when he ran a TD

May have something to do with the 70-year old O Line coach they hired who was out of football for 2 years as well.

Innovative and inspired choice.

And he has probably the best pocket awareness of any quarterback in the NFL. Some guys have zero pocket awareness and it was reported on their scouting report.
regardless of design though, they aren't moving anyone.
Good schemes make it much easier for O lineman to move their opponent. If the scheme causes the defender to take half a step the wrong way, the O lineman have a MUCH easier time moving their opponent.

No argument but their primary job is to move a guy against his will. Sometimes there isn't any scheme, you just gotta move them one on one.

Chiefs have a better offensive line than us, more news at 11. Zach Martin was also dealing with a leg issue that hampered him. They should be better coming out of the bye.

I guess these Pro's have only been playing football for a couple of years now?

Myself, I don't hand out not doing my job carte blanches. I hold them to their own standards.

First of all I don't need to wake up from anything I'm plenty woke on what's going on with the Dallas Cowboys it's a little bit of all of it you wanna go back two years and say oh they blocked well how about add in all the injuries yeah nagging injuries age I mean Zach Martin's a shell of himself Terrence Steele is coming off the ACL and has not been himself of course tyron Smith has been in and out of the lineup again we've had Tyler biotech hurt and banged up I mean the only person playing well is Tyler Smith you can't function with an offensive line that's aging with a bunch of nagging injuries that can't reach their blocks and I've also watched some of it be the running backs are not turning up into the lanes they should they're making bad decisions so it's a little bit of everything scheme and players but execution is always important I don't care what scheme it is and the players are not getting it done go watch the games how many times we pointed out Tony Pollard should have went left he went right he should have went right he went left he is not a starting running back he should not be given those types of carries he needs to be backed off and used and utilize the way he has been in the past this is a failure from the coaches you are correct but it's not all scheme it's player utilization...

So let's hope the bye week helps the offensive line feel better because they are not the same from two years ago or from last year there's a lot of issues here... Let's hope that the coaches wake up and see the error of their ways with the scheme and try to make some adjustments and also for sure change the running back rotation we don't need a new running back we need to use some of our other running backs between the tackles short yardage goal line and let Tony Pollard rest and come in and do his thing this man has had no burst he's not been special from five games to end last year all the way until now and that is because his carries and his load got bigger and now he's your average everyday running back..

And we could have this discussion like we did with zeke you can't pay $10 million to a running back who's just your average everyday running back we can get those anywhere he's not doing anything that any of these other running backs can't do it's just about reps you give them more snaps they get more yards these yards per carry has not been that good..

THE moment you claimed Zach is a shell of himself I knew there was no point in reading the rest of this drivel.

I don't often agree with @blueblood70, but he is right about Zack. Even without the injuries Zack isn't dominant. Solid, yes. With the injuries, his top end play might get to solid but overall it's been pretty bad. Also, once his initial engagement is done, he is pretty much done on the play. Not going to contribute much if needed to keep moving \ hustling. I do attribute that to the health issues though.

Watch the tape & you'll see that Zack isn't imposing his will on folks like the old days.
