Did We Move the Proverbial Needle this Off-season?

Pickens helps the offense....the defense has huge questions up front
I don’t think the D is worse than last year. Inside not much better, but on the edge we could be a bit better. But if the offense can run the ball well, create TD’s in the redzone then the D might be just fine. The offense could hide the run defenses weakness if they can control the game and get better in redzone

On paper, they look better than this time last year. Questions still remain such as run defense/offense and stable QB play. Injuries and coaching will dictate everything per usual. The division is getting tougher but this group seems poised enough to compete until the end.
Or how this group of Dallas Cowboys handle game changers and work them to their advantages.

Yeah, just reading her Tweet. Gilmore is coming -- just at a later date. He's solid insurance down the stretch and likely has one more year left in him. I would actually love that move. But it will surely be towards at least camp or after. They need a vet DT run stopper, Gilmore and they're done.
Gillmore is done. He was liability his last year with us. Hes no insurance plan.

To me it depends on what you consider moving the needle. If moving the needle means they will be better and complete (and I think win) the division and get to the playoffs, yes the needle has been moved. If moving the needle means we are legit contenders for a NFC championship game or SB, then no.. we haven't moved the needle at all. And it will be at least another 2 years before we can move the needle in that direction.

Personally, I don't see how you could think the team didn't at least put in a solid effort at improving.

I won't list all the players, but I think the ones we've added via draft or FA or UDFA or trades, probably move the needle at least a little bit.

I just hope they aren't done yet. I don't know what we're getting done. But get 'er done, Jerry!
Pre draft Id say the roster got worse from last year. I thought Booker was a reach at a low value position but overall value for the top 3 positions was solid.

Trading for Pickens is high risk high reward.

After the dust has settled I think we’ll be competitive and will sneak into the playoffs as long as Dak plays like superman but the roster just isn’t at the same level as top contenders.

Yes, and I definitely didn’t think I would be saying that three months ago. But you gotta give the Cowboys some credit where credit is due. We have acquired some outstanding upgrades when I didn’t think it was still possible. I can now definitely say the Cowboys will be in improved Team over last year’s team. Probably not quite as good as we were the year before though. We’ve just lost too many players.

Division is tougher. But we improved this year. If we can stay healthy, I think we can compete with any team, including Philthy. We need a few things to go our way, but our luck should probably get better as far as injuries.

Pickens is like having 2 number 1 receivers. Almost not fair to get him yet we got him, plus the draft.

Now we just need to sign one more splash player and it'll be the best off-season in a decade.
I feel like Pickins is the perfect kind of player to go up against Philly.

We shuffled the chairs on the Titanic but didn't change the captain of the ship who is steering us toward the iceberg again.

I just have trouble believing that the end result will change when we have the same men making the decisions who have been making them for almost 30 years of failure.

We've had multiple quarterbacks, multiple coaches, made multiple big moves, changed our focus (from free agency to the draft), etc., and the results have been the same.

The Pickens move is getting fans excited again, only to likely have Lucy pull the ball away at the last second. I'm firmly in the believe-it-when-I see it camp now because I've been fooled too many times.

That doesn't mean I don't like the Pickens move. At this point in time, I accept being entertained as my alternative to winning Super Bowls.

The needle definitely moved, and quite a bit compared to last year.
It moved a lot more with Pickens. And will move more once all the injured players are health and return.

They replaced players lost, and we will need to see if they are an improvement. As I believe some players lost, needed to go, and are an addition by subtraction.

I still do not have us winnng the division. And had us on the verge of being the 7th playoff team. Now will say Pickens improves that chance tremendously.

Could you imagine if the Cowboys were actually active in free agency for the better free agents?

The needle has absolutely moved forward. I see a 10 win team right now, maybe better with some luck on the injury report. Still have work to do along the DL, and adding a vet corner wouldn't hurt, but I like how this team is shaping up.

How will Coach Schottenheimer fair as a rookie HC? I'm cautiously optimistic that he will rise to the occasion and get this team back on track. If nothing else, it will be a very interesting season.

1000%
These guys don't have the football smarts to put together a team built to make a SB.
29 Years is a huge sample size.
They are great at entertainment.
Roster construction?
Not so much.

Very concerned about our run defense.

Yes but they are still the 3rd best team in the division.

The distance between 2nd and 3rd has closed some.
I think we're at least the 2nd best team in the NFCE now.

On average, it takes 32 years to win a Superbowl. We're right on track.
