Did we over pay?

We didn't overpay for Romo, he ended up having the best season of his career leading us to a 12-4 record and a playoff win after signing the contract. He's had injury issues but had we not extended him 2014 never happens and we would have likely been picking in the top 10 the past few years. As for Dez he hasn't done a damn thing since he signed his extension. At the time he deserved the money but he hasn't lived up to the contract. We're in the second year of it and he's missed 10 games and has only scored 4 TD's. All his numbers have gone down and he still hasn't matured. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done everything I could to trade him. His best years are behind him.

You understand the cap but if you want me to spell it out I can

DAL right now 5.3m under the cap
Getting all the money back from RMcClain 2.6m
Getting at least 1m back from DMac, maybe 1.75m
Hanna back 250k
Total 9-10m under the cap

Next year 7m over right now...Carry over 8m = 1m
Re-do, trade or cut Romo 24m to 11m = 13m
Restructure TSmith 15.8m to 8.4m = 7.4m
Restructure Dez 17m to 9m = 8m
Restructure TFred 14m to 4m = 10m
Re-do Witten 12m to 6m = 6m
Restructure TCrawford 10m to 5.5m = 4.5
Cut Free(maybe re-sign later) 6.5m to 1.5m = 5m
Cut Hanna save 1.5m
Cut Wilber 1.25m
Total 58m under

41 guys under contract, main FAs
Mo Claiborne- 8m

B Carr- if cheap
B Church- if cheap
J Wilcox
T McClain-1.5m
J Crawford
R Leary- too rich
M Sanchez- 2m
K Moore
T Williams- whoever signs for 3m
B Butler- whoever signs for 3m

Did we over pay for Romo or Dez? In hindsight most logical fans will agree we did. How much do we owe Romo? Dez still has an opportunity to earn his contract.

romo was good value. He just keeps getting hurt.

Dez? I think so, but that was pretty much the going rate. gotta love that it was only a 5 year deal, however.

Dez? Absolutely. I wish people would be more objective and see he hasn't done anything to earn that contract yet. Nothing.
I think Dez did more before his contract was up to earn the big contract then has done after he signed. He hasn't played as well since signing his mega deal for one reason or another, either injuries or bad QB/offensive play. But I was watching the MNF game last night and was watching the Jets get throttled. There was a play in the mid 3rd qtr and they were down 21-3. It was a pass play to a WR. I watched Brandon Marshall lackadaisicly run his little 3rd yard hitch route. The way he ran the route and body language was so bad that the defender just left him and went deeper into coverage. Marshall basically told the defense he wasn't getting the ball and he put zero effort into that play. I thought to myself there's no way Dez would have done that. I have never seen dez put zero effort in any play in his career, even when he knew the ball wasn't coming his way.
I know I've been hard on Dez this season but as a fan I do like the idea that when he's on the field he gives 100% on every play

i'll never understand this question. we paid going rate and things changed. we've taken some hits, kept on going and went through hell last year, did a better job of covering skill positions this year since the OL was pretty solid and *that* is paying off in as much as anything.

doesn't matter *now* what we paid *then*. that was our direction, and we were going for it like all teams do.

we're pretty lucky we've got 3 years at least before we need to lock down elliot and prescott for longer contracts and if they keep playing like they are now, they will get paid like everyone does.

Romo yes, Dez no, Tyron no, anyone on the OL hell yes. Some on the defense are worth average contracts, i dont like Lees contract. I think Byron Jones will be worth locking him up.

.... how have we overpaid for Dez, but not Romo, when Romo has played 5 out of 21 games? Based on production, im pretty sure youre trolling.
It would be a waste of my time to explain it to you, when others have already explained it in the thread. Have fun going through it for answers.

Who do you guys want to spend the money on?......DAL is 9m under the cap this year and 50m under next year.....we have to pay Mo next year and that is about it

where are you getting those numbers? according to overthecap.com, we're about 950k under right now (we'll get money back from McClain) and more than $6 million over for nest year. Now we can EASILY restructure to create more space, so I'm not worried, but where did you get $50 million from?

Romo has earned his way in Dallas. With Bryant the club should have known better. He is a street smart guy. He got what he wanted. They should have franchised him while it was possible...did it twice and let him walk. Plenty of young boys that can catch a football and with much less drama.

Semantics I guess, but I normally say they have the ability to get under the cap by that much, not that they are under the cap.

Had to pay Romo. Franchise QB's don't come cheap. I lost a lot of respect for Dez when he said he would hold out if he was franchised. Hasn't done nothing much since. It's time for him to step up.

$6.2 million over

I believe it's actually '17.5 million over the cap''

155.3 salary cap, Dallas is at 172.8, that's 17.5 million over the cap at the end of the year

Tony Romo? Absolutely not.

Dez? Probably...but that's just because teams have proven that they can win championships without a star receiver. No one could have predicted that he would catch the injury bug, but aside from that, he was always a TD machine but never a complete receiver. There very few players that I would take over Dez in the red-zone; but between the 20s, there are quite a few receivers who are better than him.
