Did you realize we didn't miss Bruce Carter or Sean Lee?

Wilbur also had one of the plays of the game breaking up that long pass. I hope people don't think it's automatic that Carter makes that play either. Carter still has a lot to prove, and frankly I'm shocked that people want him over Durant.

Wilber probably got away with PI on that play and there is no doubt about which player is faster.

Wilber has never been on the field over Carter for long and certainly wouldn't be with how Carter has played this season.

IMHO our LBs have been Ro> Durant> Carter by far with a big drop off to Hitchens and Wilber.

I think those QBs looked awful against us because we played good coverage downfield. Once we get Carter back we will be even better at pass defense. He's our best cover linebacker on the team.

Wilson is a rollout mobile QB that reaks havoc on undisciplined defense. If teams keep him in the pocket and his running game isn't working I am not sure he can carry the team.
We will face more teams with pocket passers who can pick defenses apart without a good pass rush....so it'll be good to get some DL players back that can rush the passer or seems like coaches are finding out who is best suited at which position (Crawford at DT) and maximizing the talent.

Lee is our best cover LB and it's not that close.

I don't think you can count on Lee anymore so I'd definitely make a push to bring McClain back. We paid Lee so obviously he still has a spot on this team for the next couple of seasons.

However availability is just as important as ability, IMO, so despite his heady play I'd have no problem at all if the Cowboys found a way to pawn Bob Sanders 2.0 off on someone else.

It just seems like people are dismissing Wilbur instead of showing him love for playing a good game. Also, I still don't trust Carter mentally.

Why do people still bring up Lee? Was he playing this week? Carter is our best cover LB right now and Durant a close 2nd.

Pocket passers are easier to sack. All you have to do is figure out where that passer is going to be in the pocket and pin your ears towards that area. Given that we have been facing more mobile QBs, maybe thats the reason why we haven't had many sacks lately.

I honestly think we will actually be effective against pocket passers than against mobile QBs. Take a look at Drew Brees and see how erratic he was during that entire game.

I missed Carter every time I saw Wilber on the field.

It was less intense because Durant and Ro have been really good and they were able to mix in Hitchens and Wilber to keep guys fresh.

This LB group -- obviously Ro but also Durant and Hitchens have been a major positives. We've got three guys UDFA next year so there will have to be some decisions made, but looking good right now

There are so many possible machinations at LB it is hard to predict and expect any accuracy but it is the team's most interesting position all of a sudden.
I think Ro is back because we gave him a shot when others wouldn't and he has been very good.
I think that one will work out.
He's strengthened us so much up the middle he almost has to return.

Durant has been well better than his contract but truth is he is still a very undersized backer and only fits certain schemes and has also had injury concerns.
He'd be the ideal 4th LB but is probably too good to not start.
I think with the salary cap being what it is Hitchens has to be back and playing.
So I guess by default I am saying Carter leaves as the guy with a lot of upside left and likely drawing the biggest offers.
Probably doesn't hurt us in that he'd draw draft pick compensation.

And none of that addresses the wild card that is Sean Lee.
Will he take a pay cut? Will they feel they must release him and move on?

If they can get Lee at Will, Durant at Sam and Ro at Mike with Hitchens the top back up they can be even better next year WITH losing Bruce Carter who may well be someone else's top LB.

Wilber is very solid 5th LB but he is still not starter caliber and I think teams would target him if he took snaps every play.

We did not seem to miss Lee and Carter yesterday. But I'm still interested in seeing a LB corp of Lee, Carter, Ro and Durant next year.

My thinking is along those same lines. Hopefully Lee will come back and play to form, but there's no way you can pencil him at any of the LB positions for length of the season. He just can't stay healthy. Maybe moving him to Will, and rotating him with other LB's will help with that, but we have to have at least 3 other LB's we can count on.

Why would we have to release Sean Lee? His contract is friendly in that he only gets paid if he's on the field and he's already missed an entire season. Aren't we in good shape with his contract?

Carter can still make good money and create something great with this young talented supportive cast. If he wants to be the alpha male and get the max FA contract, then should probably let him go, rather than using the franchise tag.

Could make the same argument regarding Murray, but may franchise one or the other.

Bruce Carter or Lee at LB? That's 2/3 of our projected season starters. I thought we really needed Carter against Lynch too.

If you have told me that at beginning of the season I tell you Seattle puts 30+ on us and wins by at least 2 TD's. Thank goodness I am wrong!

Let's not get crazy.
Lee makes us better.

In all honesty........I haven't missed Sean Lee since he was drafted.

I know this board loves this kid and it's hard not to, but he hasn't helped this team, on the field, at all.

Do we even know if we miss Lee or not? The defense could be a lot better with him in the lineup. Durant is playing awfully well.

i don't think you can say we did'nt miss them. we overcame them being out but they are better players so they are missed. that said i expect lee and Ro together with hitch and maybe durant next year. i don't think carter will be back. hard to have all 3 lb's making big money and we have cheaper options. we also have alot of other guys to sign and it's not feasable to sign them all
