Different Hypothetical

I disagree. If we did it we would have 3 or 4 years, with Romo, with a much improved defense, and maybe a super bowl victory or two. Then, if we couldn't replace Dak, the world would go to hell in a handbasket.
You think Romo is playing 3 to 4 more years?

I think he is capable of it. I do not know whether he will or not. I think if they traded Dak, he would play several more years barring debilitating injury.

I do not believe he is any more susceptible to injury than any other player. I do not buy into that narrative that he is more brittle than any other player.

I wouldn't trade Dak for the #1 and the #12 because, essentially, you'll have to find you another franchise quarterback. And if you pick him at #12, then you're essentially swapping Dak for the #12 pick. And I think Dak is worth more than the #1 pick in this draft.

However, if you add #1, #12, #33 and #65, I'd do it. Why?

Because as much as I love what Dak has done, I believe he benefited greatly from this offensive line and the running game. I find it hard to believe that another young quarterback couldn't come in and, while not having anywhere close a season as Dak had, find some measure of success with this offense.

Besides, we can't be sure Dak will continue to progress, although I think he will. It's not like Dak will be the last great quarterback that comes through the draft.

So with the three picks extra picks plus Romo, you could take ...

#1 Myles Garrett - DE
#12 John Ross - WR
#28 Budda Baker - S
#33 Zach Cunningham - LB
#60 Kenny King - CB
#92 Chad Kelly - QB

Sorry, love you, Dak, but I'm taking that haul any day.

Every player has a price tag. Even Tom Brady.

Never in a million years would I go for it.

I believe we have found our future franchise QB and potentially the best QB in the league over the next 5 years.

The biggest reason why Romo has not been traded is because of his injury history. Teams are timid to sign a 37-year old QB that has played next to no football in the past 18 months after multiple injuries to his back. They are not only afraid he will get injured, but they have seen very little tape on him the past 18 months due to his lack of playing time.

So, why would I trade away our young, healthy and uninjured QB and bank on Romo staying healthy?

I would need a lot more than draft picks as well. I would need current players that I think could step right in and be ready to go and have a proven track record. Cleveland doesn't have that.

You would just about have to sell me the entire Cleveland franchise for fish heads and rice for me to even have a glancing thought about trading Dak.

I am not proposing we do it. I am discussing what if?

There are no guarantees with Dak either. It sure looks like the real deal but give the NFL a year and he may have a bit of a drop off.

Colin Kaepernick says hello from the peanut gallery.

You mean from the bench and soon to be retired gallery.

Kap should go to church and start praying that someone takes a flier on him...he already has the kneeling part down

1. If Cleveland came calling and said we will give you the 1st overall pick and #12 overall for Dak, would you do it?

2. Let's suppose the Cowboys decided it was too good of an offer to pass up and made the trade. We could take the pass rusher #1 overall and possibly take the best QB in the class at #11. Obviously in this scenario we would KEEP ROMO.

3. Assuming #2 happened how do you think it would turn out for the Cowboys.

If the Cowboys truly believe he is a superstar franchise QB then I would not trade him period, end of story

The value of a franchise QB makes him non negotiable. The hardest position in all sports to fill
and the fortunate team that has him will trade him for some chances to replace him?

I would think if people around the league thought Romo had 3-4 years left in him then he'd have already been traded.

This isn't to say you're wrong, time will tell, but from the actions of others I'd say you're strongly on the optimistic side of things.

If Romo plays for 3 or 4 more years how much of a win would it be for the acquiring team?

I believe Romo is worth more than a first if he is healthy. But let's say you are the Texans or Denver.

A 3rd round pick, while valuable, has about a 40 percent chance of actually playing out their first contract (In guessing. Getting a true impact player in the 3rd round is even less likely.

Is Romo a risk? Yes. But a pick also carries risk with it too.

With Romo you risk his health (even though he is no more of an injury risk than another player his age) but you aren't really risking whether he can play at a high level. You already know he can do that.

For me, it would require both of Cleveland's number one this year and their first next year. Next year's QB class should look a lot better and increase our chances of finding the QB of the future.

Given what was asked for Wentz, RG3, and Goff who were all lesser players I would tell them more is required.

Romo is leaving; I cannot wait for this type of nonsense to be over.

It's pretty apparent some don't realize or appreciate what we have in Dak. We struck gold in the 4th round and people want to monkey with it?? No thanks.
