These are not gonna be "negotiations", ...Diggs' agent will put in a demand and Jerry will have to pay it. SJ may dance around it and act like they have leverage. Not with Pollard on the franchise tag. That's the way it is. Might as well get it over with.

When it comes to the player the Cowboys really prioritize and really want to keep here .. the Cowboys have always managed to re-signed their own.
I cannot name a case that was different.

It would have to be an astronomical event between the two parties of Diggs camp vs the Jones for it to be any different.
Pretty much true, especially if you consider the ones they want to keep are the ones they offer early extensions to.

I'm not totally convinced that they wanted to keep Gregory, for example.

I know sometimes we wish they weren't so eager to prioritize players they really want to keep.

Can the Cowboys afford to pay Diggs, Lamb, and then Parsons? What about Dak's extension?

Something has to give. Drafting better means wanting to keep more of your impact players. Salary cap management is always about limiting the big contracts while creating options through depth and quick productivity from the players on rookie contracts.

Ironically, the Cowboys caved in to Zeke's holdout the same season they drafted Tony Pollard. If they had known of Pollard's future productivity, do you think they would still have given Zeke that same contract?

Speaking of which, I hear that rookie CB Eric Scott has been doing rather well. In addition to Brand, that could create a young duo with potential. The Cowboys could have three years of starting CB's on their 5th and 6th round rookie contracts.

I love Diggs, just saying the reality is what it is.

How badly do the Cowboys really need Diggs to move forward?

Yes, Cowboys can afford al lof these aforementioned layers ... why ? they don't get spent on "average " players
and they've been very careful to invest in key core players ....
Byron Jones was not seen as a core player. His career ended up being an utter disaster in Miami.

Great point on Randy Gregory as i forgot about him .. yes they wanted to keep Gregory but apparently they wanted certain "conditions " regarding his contract.
Despite all of the rehabs, suspensions and support helping with weed addictions, and choosing to stay with Gregory- instead of releasing him
.... they obviously did not really feel confident 100% with a 100% huge contract .. a huge full guarantee, nor a huge dollars per year, fat contract

They called Gregory camp's bluff ..and Gregory hooked up with a team that was willing to pay his contract demands " unconditionally" ..guarantee, and per year ..and all.

Frankly I think we really lucked out with moving on from Gregory,..
1) We drafted a gem find in Sam Williams .. .
2) Gregory is gonna always be hurt and missing games

If he wants to be a Cowboy for life.
Then 15m per for 5 yrs with incentives. And Trading Lewis would be the way to make that happen.
When you do the incentives they can make him 5m more for tackles, TFL and FF. Lmao

His softness in the last few weeks of the season turned me off pause

Let this play out and franchise him next year if you have to.
Wouldn’t the franchise tag also be massive though? I think Diggs stepped up on coverage last year. Big time. But that dropped int in the playoff game and the whiff on Kittle (regardless if he was ineligible) has left a bad taste in my mouth
