Yet have STUNK in the playoffs when it really matters.

Like Aikman and Jimmy said after the disaster loss to Green Bay---they did not expect it at all.

If the front office put together a roster that has won more games(36) than any NFC team in the least three and 2nd only to the Chiefs (37) in the entire NFL, why should they be able to predict a Green Bay flop when almost all of the experts didn't?

The solution isn't so simple that a bunch of fans on the internet would know more than Aikman or Jimmy Johnson.

The solution has to be out there, but its tough.

“Winning” is not all equal.
Agree.
Beat up (and pile up stats) on the weak, then flop vs the good.

The point is that coaches, players, Vegas, and almost everyone was surprised when they flopped this year.
Maybe they shouldn't have been, but they were.

So my question is that if nobody else knew it would happen, why should we think Dallas' front office should know

They see a team that is always high in the power rankings and always piles up wins, so they have to be wondering what can they do.

This is what is so puzzling about this team.

Their regular season performance is among the best, but they just can't seem to beat good teams regularly. This narrative is only partially true though since this year they did beat Philly, LA, and Detroit, all of whom were playoff teams.

They can stack up wins better than anyone, but for whatever reason when the playoffs come around, they are totally punchless. I don't get it.

A good example I can think of in other sports would be teams like the 2014 Atlanta Hawks (60-22). Regular season wood chippers, but when your go to guy is Al Horford, you probably aren't going to win big in the playoffs and that is exactly what happened. The 2009-2013 Denver Nuggets are another great case study. Won 50+ games in three of four seasons during that stretch but never made it out of the first found of the playoffs. Their best players were Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried.

I kind of think Dallas is in the same situation.

The Patriots went undefeated in 2007 and lost the Super Bowl.

The Warriors went 73-9 in 2016 and lost in the NBA Finals.

Neither team won anything.

Regular season DOESN’T MATTER.
Yeah, obviously.......but that wasn't the question.

Those were one season flops.

What does a front office do when a team piles up the wins and all the supposed best football minds think they will do well in the playoffs and they keep flopping?

How can anyone expect the Front Office to know if the best football minds in the world don't know?

Honest question

Championship teams are built to beat championship teams...This team is built to win the NFCE..which the last three seasons has been a two team division really and a bad one. That's why this year the two top dogs were embarrassed in the wild card by supposedly record wise poorer teams. Dallas is not built to beat the teams they need to beat in the playoffs. So yeah, regular season don't matter as much as you think record wise, just have the team that can win in the playoffs. They don't and haven't had one for a long time.

Jimmy assembled the Cowboys to beat the 49ers, the rest took care of itself. Same with Landry and his rivals. Whoever was the threat to them in the NFC.

Philly was in free fall, LA was awful early in the season when we beat them and the refs gave us the win vs Detroit,
All true.
Everyone was kicking Philly's tails later in the year.
The Rams early were nothing like the Rams late
The Detroit game was a coin flip, and in Dallas

Screw the “best football minds”. Any initiated fan knew this team would blow it in the playoffs.

Miami went undefeated the entire year.

Im sure if i cared enough, i could go find lots of teams with good regular season records and stll won their ships.

Not to mention you usually need a decent regular season record to make it to the playoffs, accept buccaneers apparently!
