For those who dread it, I am picking up from the off-season 3-4 discussion.

We already have had some success with the 3-2-5 early this season.
So there is existence proof we have the DL to play 3 men DL.
A 3-4/3-3 may play well to our personnel though it can transform into a 4-3 some of the time.

DL
RE - Irving//Tapper/Moore
NT - Collins/Price/Paea
LE - TLaw/Taco/Crawford

LB
Make Jaylon/Mayowa the blitzing LBs that hops the different gaps.
This utlizes Jaylon's speed while reducing the amount of direction changes
Keep moving the DL to different gaps so the offense presnap is more difficult, as I have already seen some formations where the middle of the DL is pretty much empty

WLB - Lee/
MLB - Hitchens/Durant
Blitzing LB #1 - Jaylon who will move along the DL presnap
Blitzing LB #2 - Mayowa who will also move around

If we're going to run a 3-4 (I wish we never switched) then make Eberflus the DC since he has a background in that defense. This is the type of thing that you do in the offseason though not in the middle of the season...

I don't think we have the DL to do it full time. Our best linemen are best suited for the 4-3.

I get it, but 4-3 vs 3-4 is not the problem and we have exactly 0 3-4 OLB's on the roster currently.

i think the lack of pressure is the problem and our blitzes dont have much success.
the attacking shifting 3-4 defense seems like a logical cure.
we are already playing a 3-2-5 quite a bit, so we obviously have DL/LBs that can play it decently.

Maliek Collins isn't really suited for 3-4 NT.

Lawrence and Moore would be OLBs in this scheme, neither could really play 5-Technique aka 3-4 DE spots.

thought DLaw got some of his sacks while we were in the 3-2-5
do i remember incorrectly?
he may well be playing outside of the TE though i dont remember.

Our lack of pressure is solely on Rod. He likes to play a bend, don't break scheme. Drop 6 or 7 and only send 3. I LOVE the 3-4, I ran it as my base for 30 years. get the right coordinator and were in business. I don't think Rod can run it. You need to believe in it to run it effectively.

right, but we dont have to do it all the time.
play it on some 1-10 and most 2 and long/3 and long downs.

I guess I just don't see the point. I know we've done it a bit this year, but I'm not sure why. When Collins and Lawrence are tearing it up--it looks fine. When they're not--it gets zero push.

uncertainty in where we attack allows us to get more consistent pressure.

3-2-5 is really a 3-2-6 or dime package. It's an obvious pass down so you can get by with the smaller ends.

a 3-4 is a whole different animal and you have to be able to defend the run.

We struggle too hard to find quality 3-4 players when we did run it. We just need better play from our D. Bookend Irving with Dlaw is going to be a good sight. Add in Collins with some plays from other guys this squad should be solid. Our secondary is just young and bang up. I'm still kind of mad JJ didn't go after a veteran safety in FA.

When did Jalen Smith and Mayowa prove they have any significant pass rushing ability? Running the 3-4 without a stud pass rusher is like running the 4-3 without a DE.

We have the NFL leader in sacks. Let's turn him into a guy whose job is to eat double teams.

Pass?

nobody said to line up tlaw to eat double teams.
the point is to have pressure coming from unpredictable points instead of just keep doing the same stunts that take forever to get there.

This.

We don't have the personnel to run a 34.

The dime package is night and day from a base 34.

i thought we were playing it more than on passing downs.
but i would settle on passing downs certainly...
