Disgruntled Adrian Peterson

Here are the conditions in which I would welcome Peterson in the Cowboy fold...

1. The Vikings release him... No trade... no giving the Vikings any draft picks. No giving the Vikings any players.
2. He passes through waivers unclaimed. I think the odds of this happening being pretty good. I don't think anyone would claim him and assume his 2015 contract parameters.

The Cowboys could then negotiate with him for a contract that was much lower than what he was going to get from the Vikings.

Those are my conditions. :)

I like dreamers.

Vested vets don't have to pass through waivers. Automatic free agents in the offseason.

Vikings will get a pick before they ever release him. Raiders have 30 mil in space

Steal.
The raiders have already said they are not interested. They would be foolish to trade for a him with that contract when he doesn't want to play for them either.

I don't see it being that unreasonable.

Who would have thought Ratliff was going to be released?

The Vikings would gain about $10 mil cap space... Which they could roll-over into next season.

And on top of that I think it's doubtful any other team would want to commit to Peterson's contract for this season.

I agree If he wants to play here then he'll need to renegotiate. If the Vikings insist on his playing there then that's dicey. He'd give effort but pulled muscles will be the order of the day.

Much better for the Vikings to release if no trade by deadline. I think we win the war for his services unless someone makes him an offer he can't refuse.

Forget the money, trade away next years first rounder on a 30+ year old RB? That isn't very smart and exactly why we won't do it.

It's easy to feel clever by saying it isn't smart to make that trade today. However if it is smart or not is not something that can be determined at this point. Is it a gamble? Sure. But so is not doing it.

Let's say they go into the season as we are today and our committee of underachievers fail to make any impact on the game. Romo is forced to be predictable and throw throw throw and he ends up getting hurt or doesn't get hurt but our offense is average again.

Let's say we trade for him and he explodes into carrying us to the next 2 Super Bowls.

Let's say we don't trade for him and we end up drafting the next Mo Claiborne next year.

I am on the fence. However I can see that there is a very real risk reward scenario that just is impossible to know at this point. Too many variables involved.
I will say this....I believe 100% that our chances of success greatly improves over the next 2 years if we were to make this trade. A rookie 2 years from now won't have the same level of impact Peterson will in 2 years.

I don't think he would have to pass though waivers. He is a vested veteran.
