Trainers have cleared Rolando McClain to practice, but he refuses to do so. They've told him he's fine, just sore.

This guy could make a huge difference if his heart is in it, but it doesn't look like it is.

Not sure this guy's worth the trouble, even with his talent.

So what now?

Now everybody will jump to a conclusion that he's not the RKG. Just be easy, the Cowboys has had a number of injuries over the past years- probably due to the athlete coming back to early. An athlete knows when his / her body is ready for battle. This is the type of reported information that goes in my nonsense basket, lol.

I might be reading between the lines here, but maybe they don't really know if he wants to play. *If* it was just injury I would think Bryan what have said tap the brakes just being cautious. However he said let's see how it plays out. To me that means that there is more here.

McClain's probably going to be a roller coaster. You think it's bad now, wait until he plays well and we have to consider a long-term extension. Then see what happens if he goes Crazy Ivan again.

Even if this were a flip-flop, it might not be all that different from whatever happened with Cole Beasley his rookie season. You just don't know until you know more of what might be happening. At this point, we're just guessing. Except we know this guy's got a ton of baggage. Expecting a guy with a ton of baggage to behave as if he has none is foolish. We should be expecting the ups and downs and then be surprised if they don't happen, instead.

I think it is best to take a wait and see view with players like McClain. Former high picks that didn't stick and/or guys who have been out of football for a little bit. It is so hard to be out of the game for even a year and come back and become productive. Most likely, he will either stick around for a year or two here or not even make the team. Sure, there is a chance he finds a place and is willing to be a true pro and sticks around for 5-6 years. I am fine with taking chances on guys like this. But I am very cautious thinking he is going to be a guy we will be still talking about 2 years from now.

Basically this. Everybody loves a good "lets see if someone else's failed #1 pick can flourish here" story, however, 80% of the time these all end up in failure.

It's certainly worth a try and for the most part, so far, I've been happy with what I've seen.

people tend to not get in football shape by themselves ,point blank
By all means, lets provide excuses and while we're at it, let him take the week off. With his monumental skills who need to get in "football shape" anyway. He can just waltz in the first season game and do good.

I see the probability of McClain working out as about the same as 3rd round draft pick. That's a good bet considering that they owe Zero if he is cut before the season starts.

My view of the whole thing is this.

Get a full 2014 out of McClain, then ideally the return of Lee and development of Hitchins thereafter will take it from there.

I know it is flimsy, but saw this on Cowboys Nation and didn't see it anywhere else. Don't shoot the messenger. No article, just breaking news across the scroll.
Cowboys News:
Is MLB Rolondo McClain re-retiring? Our sources say yes. Stay tuned as we get verification.
