He was a priority free agent, despite not playing in 2014. So there's something to him obviously. Plus KC has a great D, I'm assuming they were already deep at DT, and were hoping to stash him on the practice squad. Same way if we had another young, talented Guard, he'd probably be on the practice roster too behind Martin, Leary, Collins and Bernadeau.

We signed Sterling Moore from NE's practice squad and he played well for us whenever called upon.

Preaching to the choir. I like the pick up.

OVERVIEW
Charged with domestic assault in November 2013 after an incident with the mother of his child. Was suspended for a game, but charges were dropped two months later. In April 2014, took part in VEISHEA, which was the largest student run festival in the nation, bringing in tens of thousands of visitors to the campus each year. A riot ensued and a picture of Irving in contact with a stop sign made its way onto social media. He was charged with fifth-degree theft, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. He was dismissed from the team following the incident.

PRO DAY RESULTS
40-yard dash: 4.84 seconds
Vertical jump: 38 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 8 inches
Short shuttle: 4.53 seconds
3-cone: 7.27 seconds

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS (Based on 2013 tape) Has a great frame with room to fill out into much thicker player. Long arms with ability to keep blockers off of him. Does a nice job with his hands, getting quick punch and working to control the line of scrimmage. Moves well down the line and plays off of the guard on stretch plays, looking to leverage the outside shoulder. Operates with quick swim move. Good motor and will pursue down the field.

WEAKNESSES (Based on 2013 tape) Frame is thin for interior line position. Showed some ability to hold up at point of attack, but leverage is a concern on push pocket as pass rusher.

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 5 or 6

SOURCES TELL US "He's got baggage that will have to be combed over but boy does he have talent. Somebody is going to take him." - NFC North scout

BOTTOM LINE Irving's problems off the field are a concern and he's been vocal on social media about his disappointment regarding how things went down at Iowa State. Needs more weight on his frame, but he might have addressed that issue during his time off. Has ability to 2-gap with length and is an intriguing 3-4 defensive end project with draftable talent. Talent and traits give him a shot to hear his name called on Day 3, despite not playing in 2014.

Well, if the reaction of KC fans is any indication, we may have found a good one. Boy, are they pissed. LOL.

One tall dude. Another long armed guy.

Love it. This guy has massive potential, I've seen all I need to. He's got that rangy build (like Gregory) but seems to have a lot of power hidden in that frame (like Gregory). This guy looks like a man among boys. I don't know what got into our front office, but they're making solid move after solid move. We have such a young, dynamic foundation on this team, it isn't even funny. Get ready to enjoy the next ten years of Cowboys football, this team is going to be a force, mark my words.

DOOMSDAY 1 - all 4 were 6'5. Nothing wrong with a BIG and athletic DL and OL

I agree. Just IMO at that height it is sometimes difficult to gain leverage against offensive linemen. Especially if he'll be tried out at the 3 Tech. Seemed a tad lanky in some of those Iowa State videos.

Hopefully he is a hidden gem that we can take advantage of. No doubt he has the size and athletic ability to be a NFL player.

They had to restructure Witten when they added Cassell.

You are correct about Witten's contract being restructured at the same time Cassel was signed but has it been confirmed that the restructuring allowed Cassel to come aboard the USS Cowboys? I've always understood those concurrent actions as just a coincidence.

They would not restructure Witten at this time if they didn't want to create more cap space. It's a little different to look at cap space because of the unusual situation of Hardy's contract which only hits the cap as he gets paid each week.

Yes, KC has a good DL. Also, they play a 3-4 so there are only 3 DL position instead of 4. He is an option to play 4-3 DE but not 3-4 OLB.

He also probably needed to gain weight to play DL in a 3-4; whereas he can play DE here immediately and even play some at 3tech as a pass rusher.

The media talk is he'll play DE as.soon as this weekend.

Figures. He was beasting inside but we are not going to even try him there, because of his body type. Imagine if Leon Lett never got to play DT because he was 6'6 and 280 lbs. Same with Randy White, he was the perfect size for MLB, but undersized for DT. He wasted 3 years playing out of position. Rayfield Wright spent a few years playing TE too.

Not saying Irving is either of these guys but let's play to the guy's strengths instead of automatically reverting to stereotype.

Probably because they had a DT and 2 LBs playing DE.

Yes, I agree with this. The fact that he thrives on the inside with a non-traditional frame doesn't mean he's good....

...it means he's really good. And what the heck is wrong with having some range on the inside? He did not seem a tad lanky on the inside, he seemed a tad dominant.

The guy was signed last week and did more then Bishop and Coleman did in the last year. I say put him inside, let him bat down a few balls here and there

This guy was a huge bright spot in an otherwise drudgery of a game.
